Your top Spyderco picks for 2022

#1

Post by Manixguy@1994 »

Thought it would be good time to start a thread for everyone’s top picks for 2022 . Your pick does not have to be a new release , or brand new , just what has become a keeper in your lineup. How many ? Entirely up to you , it would be crazy on my part to set a limit that would be impossible for all to follow ! :smlling-eyes Have fun and wil post mine later today . Pictures are welcome ! For me, I've come to find out that I really like the handle-forward design. The LT3 LW is model that opened my eyes to this, though this is far from the first model with this design. Couple that with a handle that fills the hand a bit more than a Delica, and you have a great combination. A Leaf Jumper is probably in my future.

I avoided getting a Manix 2 lightweight for years because I perceived the G10 version with liners to be more durable.

I finally tried a lightweight this year, and I liked it a lot. Now I have three of them.

it's no secret the manix is my favorite knife ever since grabbing my m2lw a few years ago. this has definitely been the year of the manix for me though. i got my first g10 manix from a forum friend, i got the rec exclusive manix not too long after, and the 15v manix should be here tomorrow.

honorable mention goes to the vallotton though. it's a knife i scrolled past a thousand times without notice, but once i saw it, i knew i needed it in the collection. i'm glad i grabbed it when i did. it's a classy beast.

P.I.T.S is my number one choice. Close by is something not made BY Spyderco but FOR a Spyderco: Rockscale Design Manix 2 titanium scales.

I have a few that were new to me and stood out.

All of these see regular use. If I'm spending the day outside or on a project I like to switch them out for that and get a good feel for the design. All great designs. As much as I'd like to have one favorite, it would mean missing out on so much good.

If a Spyderco knife enters my lineup it becomes a keeper. Its that simple, I’m not picky!

My collection grew more this year than ever before. I don’t think I have a favorite from the bunch but the Leafstorm stands out as one of my favorite acquisitions this year.

In 2022, I finally adopted the PM2 as a knife design I really like.
Had one for a year but didn't click with me. Then scored a quite well used S30V PM2 that totally changed my mind !

Since then, the Crucarta PM2 join the herd with recently a 2nds Maxamet PM2... :grin-sweat

Otherwise, finally getting some oldies like Natives I and a Native III is clearly a highlight for me !

The S90V/CF Siren might outshine all of this, but it's been delayed for 4 days and they don't know where it is...
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Robin. Finally made an IG : ramo_knives

2022 for me was a year of extreme ups and downs for me.
But on the Spydie side of things this year will stay with me in my memory as the year that i finally found the one Spydie i have bin looking 15 years for. (Namely this little guy.)

Image

But also and this is maybe slightly off topic but i need to say it as the year i found old and new friendships on this forum.
With a Special mention and honor to my best buddy Dan , the guy that not only made the year so much fun but also is always there for me. Thank you so much buddy!

With the frn/salt model movement that seemed to be the direction Spyderco had been moving the past few years, I started venturing out towards other brands and really didn't acquire many Spyderco knives this past year. I will say, I'm very happy with these 3 here!

Image

Military - I had one before, really liked it but decided to sell it to our own Christmas birthday boy here!! His love of green and desire for the Military made me decide to offer it to him and he happily accepted.

After venturing into CRK's, I was thinking about the Military again. Missing that big ole knife! This KW exclusive model started swimming in my head for months, made a post about desiring one. So many features I love!! I love both carbon fiber and titanium. I also really wanted to give some S90V a try. What a perfect combination of attributes. Shortly after randomly posting about it, I received a PM offering it, brand new at a pretty great price. I couldn't resist and here we are! What a cool ride for me and the Military model!

Manix - if you hang around here, you know I love me a Manix! Though I've only had it a week, I was quite impressed with it at work this past week. Very thankful this was done with the G10/linered version, otherwise I'd have passed. Another cool sentiment being Shawn having a lot to do with this knife and finding it pretty cool to chat with him here on the forum.

Native - I had the LW Rex45 for about 3 days a couple years ago, but knew it wasn't for me. I did like the size and ergos though. I've always thought the fluted carbon fiber version was stunning when seeing photos. Finally took the leap during the Black Friday sales and couldn't be happier. These scales are amazing!

Not a large haul this year, but these 3 are all winners in my book.
I don't want to hear about the action of your knife - Rick

ImageI actually have a few more but these two really stand out for me this year .,The Ayoob was gifted to me by a great friend . I was actually going to pass since I never warmed up to it in the past . I was surprised how much I liked to carry and use . Of course the hard work for the comeback is another reason. The Stretch XL is so refined and geared to my tastes and have always liked the Stretch. Another stellar design by Spyderco. Dan

This was a big year for me.

Alcyone BD1N - Not bad got it as a travel knife if I lost or had to ditch it would not be a big money loss. But I am not crazy about the liner lock and did end up missing the finger choil.

PM2 Crucarta - Not much to say other and a beautiful knife that has the best action I have ever seen.

BBB Manix - Love the Manix and the new steel seems great and will be fun to test.

Native 5 LW Maxamet - I got this as a second from the Spyderco online sale, huge thanks for doing this. This knife has surprised me as I generally like knives with blades around 3.5”, but this thing is great and has been one of my favorite knives. I now want to find one in G-10 with a neat steel. I am sad I missed the green G-10 S90V run, that would have been perfect.
Endura AUS-8, Manix 2 S30V, Manix 2 LW MagnaCut, BBB 15V Manix 2, BBB 15V Para 3 LW, Alcyone BD1N, PM2 Micarta Cruwear, Native 5 Maxamet (2nd), Para 3 Maxamet (2nd), Magnacut Mule, Z-Wear Mule, REC Para 3 10V, Pacific Salt SE H2, Dragon Fly SE H2, Chaparral SE XHP, Shaman Burlap S90V, Bodacious SPY27, Manix 2 LW 15v, Sage 5 REX-121 LW.

I have to bounce back on what apollo said.
This year I made really good friends on the forum. People that sometimes live at the other side of the world and other times not that far from me. People I know I could count on even if (knowing myself), I wouldn't dare ask for help !

My pick for 2022 is the Manix 2 XL. Vivi convinced me it'd work for someone with my hand size, and he was right. Also, it's a BEAST! I'm now part of the team hoping for more sprints in the pattern.

Stretch 2 XL Cruwear looks all kinds of amazing but I haven't been able to afford one yet.
