It's always a funny feeling watching the forum go crazy about a model I have no interest in.

Now if they run that steel in XL we'll be having a different conversation ;)
that's how i feel every time i see a shaman, but with everything else, i have to constantly remind myself it's not something i want so i don't get caught up in the fray. i failed to reason myself out of this one somehow.
It's nice being a picky knife collector. When it comes to folders I'm either Spyderco or multitools. Primarily lockbacks and CBBL, nothing with a blade shorter than a Pacific Salt, nothing over $200 and a heavy emphasis on rust proof models.

I go outside these general guidelines at times, like my Yojumbo, but otherwise my self imposed restrictions limits me to about 10-15% of the offerings, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Much easier to keep up compared to when I had to try everything because I didn't know my preferences as well.

this is my attempt to find out what's so great about the high wear-resistance steels. it's my favorite model so i might as well give it a shot. it will probably make no difference to me because i don't use my knives hard daily, but this seems like a good way to dip my toe into that pool and rest the waters. i'm also planning on picking up a seki k390 soon.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

K390 is a truly exceptional steel, and I haven't personally used anything that holds an edge as long.

But PE H1 can last me a month between sharpenings, which I'm perfectly fine with for a pocket knife.

I would like to try a chef knife in a steel like 15V or K390 some day, but those get pricey real fast. I think my next work knife will be HAP40, I can find petties and gyutos in it for $120-250. I usually touch up my work knives every 2-3 shifts, so I appreciate edge holding more with those.

Here's todays carry.

Broke down a ton of cardboard with it yesterday and it's still shaving sharp.

I was always happy with S30V's performance....always held a nice edge and it was the first steel I sharpened to shaving sharpness. But man, running a ~300 grit edge on it I feel the steel really gets to show its qualities. Holds an edge very well, just keeps on cutting.

Today I've got my trusty Crucarta PM2 in my jeans pocket after I sharpened her up this afternoon. Great knife and I love the feed of the micarta scales, especially in winter time!

I hope this guy breaks in.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
