if they made it in the right size (xl), I wouldn't hesitate to buy 1-3.

I’m still baffled that the M2XL actually works for your hand. Haha!

The handle spacing and the width of my palm are literally the same. It feels made for my specific hand size.

this is actually why i'm confused about the manix not fitting your hand. i've put them overlapping before and they appeared to have the exact same shape, except the (mini) manix rounds off instead of making a full hook like the xl has.

it just barely fits my hand but my pinky always feels like it's going to fall off the end of the handle, and it often does on heavy draw cuts. It's an uncomfortable feeling and not at all confidence inspiring, which is the opposite of what I want from a Manix.

To me the U shaped handle with deep guards on each side is a defining feature of the design. Without the pinky hook I'd rather just carry something slimmer like an Endura / Pacific Salt. Those feels more secure in my grip than the mini manix.

Bear in mind I don't use the choils on either size Manix 95%+ of the time.

Additionally the mini manix has a blade shorter than I'd want to carry even if the handle worked for me.

I wrote a long post about it here years ago but because this forum wont let me search for topics ive made with manix in the title I can't find it.

Definitely. Any variant.

Except maybe if it had a coated blade.

I have looked at the same thing before. Very similar grip area behind the choil. I think that is why I don't carry my Manix as much as I used to. One there are longer blades that take up less real estate. And two, though it fits well, I don't feel as locked in gripping behind the choil. Like I may fall off the back. Minus the wide footprint, I think the XL would feel more secure with that back hook.

i really like the feel of the choil when i'm doing more standard cutting tasks that don't require a really hard grip. if i didn't like the choil, i'd probably not want a manix at all because i'd want more useable blade length.

Yeah, my preferences are no choil. However, there are too many cool designs with too many cool colors and steels that also happen to have choils. :')

For me when I choke up in the choil there isn't that much difference in control, but it's much more likely my hand gets in the way of what I'm cutting. Especially if I put my thumb on the spine, which I prefer to do with my pocket knives.

Found this image on my phone. It shows the two versions don't have the same grip area. XL fits like a glove, while the mini feels a bit undersized behind the choil.

Image

I'm sure I'd enjoy the model a lot more if I used choils with greater frequency.

i guess what i meant is they follow the exact same contour, but i see what you're saying. the hook does add a slight bit of length and quite a bit of security if your hands are larger. my hands are smaller than yours and fit perfectly within the m2 area, so i don't feel a need for the extra hook area.

thanks for posting the pic. i never took one when i made the comparison.

The XL fit is perfect fit for me , and also like the locked in grip in hand . I am good with a hook if it doesn’t pinch my grip . Any XL variation interests me , scale color would not be an issue . MG2

My problem is my hand is one width with my fingers extended but then a good bit wider when I make a fist and grip the handle, and it fattens up quite a bit. With the Manix 2 vs the XL, the way the XL pinky hook wraps around, it helps to prevent my pinky from squishing past that point, and while it may be too small and feel cramped, it does lock my hand in better than the standard 2. On the standard handle my pinky squeezes out over the point and is a different kind of uncomfortable than the XL. On my Manix 2 I've ground down that point so my pinky can go wherever it wants, I could easily do the same with the XL. If they make one in a steel I like I just might.

To admire and fondle & sometimes use, I'd prefer the XL, but would actually carry the regular size Manix much more. The XL is the best fit for me of any knife I've ever tried and could have been made for my hand. The regular size, with thumb on ramp grip, is a perfect fit except that the butt point strikes the middle of my little finger, but I don't find it uncomfortable -- it fills up the empty area and helps take up slack in my pinky. But also, I've put the K390 Stretch blade into my G-10 Stretch 2, so that is a pretty good substitute for a G-10 K390 Manix 2... so.. duh... I'd probably buy whatever they make :-)

Edit: I meant to add that I'd prefer some kind of protective acid/stone wash over DLC, maybe like the Maxamet M-2.

Count me in for a Manix 2 LW. Even better if they managed to capture that Seki blue in the Golden FRCP handles.

I'd buy a Manix 2 K390 only if it's G10. I love the Maxamet, but LW Manix 2's are too light and I'll never buy one again.
