I’m interested in a D’Allara Salt! Anyone else?

I would really like a D’Allara Salt based on the original Rescue pattern, in SE MagnaCut with orange FRN scales. I’d settle for H2 or LC200N as well, but I assume such a project would be far enough out that MagnaCut will have its heat treats worked out (I assume there will be a protocol for corrosion resistance and another optimizing it’s non-Salt properties).

We’re limited to 10 questions in the poll, and I’ve set it up to allow 4 choices - steel, handle color, PE/SE, and lock. I am unsure if the original BBL can be done in a linerless Salt knife so I included backlock as it can, and is well appreciated. I was unable to capture grind (hollow/FFG) or clip (barrel, spoon, wire) in the poll, so please discuss in the comments!

So how bout it SF, how would you build it?

Couldn't see myself picking one over a Caribbean unless it came with scales like the D'Allara 2 and even then it's a hard pick.

so weird. i remember reading your post a few days ago now, but i had forgotten all about it when i posted mine about the caribbean being a d'allara descendent. i'm too tired lately. this thread probably started me down that line of thinking.

anyway, as i said in my thread, i think the d'allara and the caribbean share a lot of similarities. have you ever tried one?

I’ve never tried either model. But the first time I saw a D’Allara and read the backstory I wanted one.

Magnacut cause I don't have any yet, CBBL because it's my favorite, yellow because of all the colors listed it's the easiest to dye, plain edge because I prefer it. I would only request G-10 instead of FRN.

Since the D'Allara got some hate for being hard to unlock, a wet environment version seems like it wouldn't work in the current design. I'd be interested to see a backlock version, though I'm not sure it's likely.

i was hoping sal might chime in with some insight, but maybe jr was right and they just have a common designer instead of a common ancestry.

I think you bring up an important point.
Personally I would preferably like to see another run of the D'allara Rescue, done pretty true to the old one, as it would mostly add a symbolic value to my collection anyways.
To add practical value, I would additionally (continue to beat a dead horse and) wish for a smaller version of the Caribbean.

That said, anything made based on the D'Allara would be of interest and taken in to consideration.

I think this would be an awesome salt! I voted Magnacut but would take any steel in Hollow Ground SE.

I think the color FRN needs some input though. I was thinking navy blue or gold to match John D’Allara’s uniform or shield. This is still a special knife that need to be treated as such.

I was just going with the existing Salt colors, but a navy blue would be nice too.

I want one regardless of steel just because of the story.

If we spent as much time trying as we do doubting, we might have already accomplished it.

Ummm yes.
I'm okay with the lock and I also vote for g10 over frn.
Gold and navy blue would be a great color choice imo.

I would prefer a Manix salt. Manix magnacut that has been discussed or lc200. A yellow Manix would be cool.

Need more CBBL in general
More CBBL please!

For this reason, mine is never carried. Sad, because otherwise this would be a great work knife for me. Caged BBL are the way to go.

Correct. May as well make it a fixed blade in a Salt version since it would be very difficult to unlock in the wet. The Caribbean already exists, so I doubt Spyderco will make it with another lock.
