Re: Funky oddball bikes!
That one goes all the way back to the '90s when they were so popular there was even a Lowrider Bicycle magazine. It's all on a different frame now than back then but back then you could go into any local bike shop and they had a whole section of parts for them. When I was a kid I literally had a bicycle junkyard in my back yard (super cool parents) and I was already building choppers with 10 speed forks and whatever wacky contraptions I could think up, so this stuff was already right up my alley.
What's kinda sad about that era was, I distinctly remember a few Schwinn Paramounts I had that were tore apart, I would love to get my hands on those today. I had a few road bikes back then but we were so much more into BMX that they weren't of much value to us. I'm almost certain I even tried to make some wheelie bars out of a set of those forks.

And a few other freaky ones.
We already had tall bikes, here is one in action. Not that tall, but a fat tall bike.

Re: Funky oddball bikes!
So Ive got a frame that I need to build up and another frame that probably wont be dilivered until the end of the year.
In the meantime I bought some old cool bikes off craigslist, mostly out of boredom.
A 1985(?) Nishiki olympic 12. Nothing funky about it. Its just like my dads old Univega. Ill clean it up, replace some stuff, throw on some wide tires and extra wide drops and maybe do some commuting on it in the winter. Might try to convert it to bar end shifters.
A 1984 Schwinn Mesa Runner. Nothing too funky about this one either but I like it. Want to do new bars, seat, and maybe convert it to a 1X drivetrain, not sure. Along with all the usual fix up stuff. I would like this to be halfway between a klunker and old school mtb.
A ?? year unknown?? Emory cruiser. This one is absolutely funky and oddball. It has the older headbadge. Im going to clean it up. I might give it to my mom but I am probably going to Klunk it for myself. If it doesnt feel too small after an extended lay back seat post and some very tall bmx bars then I will probably keep it as a klunker. Unfortunately I will need longer crank arms and a different crankset/chainring, which is more work than I wanted to do but it might be worth it.
Sorry no pics right now. Ill get a pic of that Emory up as I make progress on it.

I can't decide which tires I should choose, I've read an article https://www.bikethesites.com/650b-vs-700c-tires/ But I still want to listen to the opinion of those who have already faced this choice.
Re: Funky oddball bikes!
I have 2 wheelsets for my gravel bike, one of each. I like both, but I use the 700c about three times as much as the 650b. I come from a road background, and it just feels more natural. I'll say that the more gravelly, muddy, or sandy the ride, the more I like the 650s. Not because of the diameter, but because I can fit a wider tire in my frame.JessieJim wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 9:39 pmI can't decide which tires I should choose, I've read an article https://www.bikethesites.com/650b-vs-700c-tires/ But I still want to listen to the opinion of those who have already faced this choice.

I feel like the relevant subreddit here is r/xbiking.
Here’s my first frame set build.

It’s a Poseidon FX Tracklocross frame, with a suspension dropper and stem. I commuted on a brakeless track bike for years, and finally realized that bikes could be more comfortable after buying a gravel bike last year. These 42mms aren’t as comfy as the 55mm on the other bike, but much better than 25s.
It’s presently overgeared a bit, but have a new chainring and a few cogs on the way so I can experiment with lower gearing.

Flat bars definitely take some getting used to, but man is this thing a riot.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Not so funky, by some standards here, at the moment but it’s destined to be a bit of an oddball bike.
Just picked up this Specialized Roll Low Entry to set up as a “Cape Cod Canal Fishing Bike.” I’m planning to mount racks and rod tubes to carry all of my fishing gear along the canal.

Disassembly and reassembly can each be easily done in under 10 minutes.
