My little Manix family. 1 of each blade finish, I like this trio!!

Image

Though I also think this look would be awesome as well. I like how the inner parts of the grooves in the handle are a close match to the blade.

Image
I like that combo a lot, it has a very rustic aesthetic.

I definitely agree, the colors and the worn out micarta look match each other perfectly.

I think the one thing I don't like is the PVD in the hole, makes my thumb "stick" too much to it, or maybe it's the area around the hole as I'm just blindly feeling for the hole with my thumb. The coating feels sandier and grippier than the DLC or cerakote that I've felt on Benchmades, but I've never bought a Spydie with DLC coating

It definitely does have a bit of a rougher texture. I noticed it attracted pocket lint more, and it took a little effort to rub it away. Didn't notice any difference in use at work though. No scratches!

i like this trio. i think i need a dlc version to put my current brown micarta scales on. then i need these putnam scales for my satin manix. then i need the cruwear/purple manix. these together with my rec manix and i think i'll have all my bases covered for g10 manixes. gotta have that magnacut manix lw too.

Love the looks of these but I have been seeing some out there now that are really showing a lot of wear marks on that coating and that would drive me nuts. I know you can magic eraser a lot off but they are still looking funky and discolored to me after that, though I realize a lot of folks could care less. It would be an issue for me though, which would maybe tend to keep this one in a drawer for me if I were ever able to even get one.

i wasn't sure what to expect with the coating. i was surprised to see so much marking, but i'm not worried about it personally. i bought this knife because i like the way it looks, but i suspect i'll like it even more as it ages and wears with use. i never wanted it to be a safe queen. i do understand wanting it to stay looking pristine, but it's just a matter of changing the way you look at it, i guess. i think this one looks amazing, but i think it will look even better when it looks like a tool that's actually been used.

Is the blade actually scratched, or does it need some flitz? Flitz is a better option than a magic eraser when it comes to cleaning up a blade. I didn't cut much cardboard or abrasive kinds of tape the couple days I carried mine at work last week, so not much of stuff that tends to show some wear on my blades.

I carry the REC Lil Native near daily and my experience with this PVD coating is similar to DLC. It’s very tough and cleans up easily. It seems like it’s just the nature of the color itself that often makes it look discolored and worn. The discoloration is just more difficult to notice on a black DLC coating.

I think you are totally correct on this one. The PVD coating feels more abrasive I think and just picks up stuff.

REC said that they will be selling another run of Manix 2, PM2, Shamans and Lil native in this color. REC said due to so many factory seconds they are still owed a lot on all of those runs. The PM3 will be run again but at a later time. For the Manix 2 alone they ordered 1500 but only sold around 800, there should be about another 700 to sell. No idea on the time frame though.

if you're really impatient, there seem to be a lot of people on the rec fb page that are already done with theirs. i don't get why so many people would be hyped enough to buy the knife out from other people just to turn around and sell it. it's a great knife and i'm not letting mine go.

I love the color. It's currently in que on my sharpening bench waiting to be reprofiled. Haven't decided how low I want to take it.

the people on that page don't seem to feel the need to call them out for anything. blows my mind. i do think there is room for someone to buy a knife and not live it as much as they think they will and then let it go, but you should probably have an idea of whether or not you'll like a manix before being poised to grab 1/800 within 3 minutes before they sell out. i would never deal with that kind of drama just to try a model out.

Because they know they can just turn around and sell it for a profit. It happens here to, it’s just not as publicized.
