Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Today I'm sporting the Manix 2 XL with its pretty new Putnam OD green scales (after a long weekend of carrying the BHQ exclusive shaman M4) and I'm also carrying my native 5 SE on my side pocket as a backup

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Thanks! There was a lot of yellow in the photo, so I desaturated it a bit, so that’s mainly why they look like that. But I actually dyed them frost gray a few weeks ago. But it lost a lot of the depth of the micarta and almost looked painted. So I bought rit dye remover and used that to remove the dye. They ended up really light tan, almost white. I oiled them and let them dry and the tan came back. They pretty much look brand new now.Fly Fishing Rick wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 10:48 amLooks great! Did you dye those scales? I like the faded grey look.
Here is a pic after I had dyed them gray:
And here is one after the rit dye remover and then oiled.
I should have taken a picture right after the rit dye remover when they were bleached. I guess if anyone wants to get all the oils off and back to factory, rit dye remover is an option.

Those scales look great on your XL! Makes me miss having my kelly green scales on my M4 XL!

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Ah ok, I think they look great, and you're right, they are almost back to factory color. I expect that with prolonged use that most of the micarta will get dirty and discolored to the point where it's hard to tell what shade or maybe even what color it ever was. The knife on the left was my EDC for at least 6 years straight until just recently, the canvas micarta scales are olive green under there somewhere lol.Ranger_Ike wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 1:17 pmThanks! Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
not in my pocket today but I found some pictures of my Manix XL in M4 before I swapped micarta scales on. SpyderForLyfe's XL turned out great and made me want to post mine!
I think this would be a great color scheme for a sprint. The M4 sprint sure went fast!
I ended up dying the ends of those scales black and swapped them on to an S30V XL. Here are my three "regular sized" Manix folders all together
Definitely carrying one when I get back home.

That is a nice looking knife and a great looking edge, Vivi. I would definitely buy one if they did a sprint in that configuration.
Speaking of M4, I’m carrying the M4 Shaman again today. Serrated police 4 k390 in my left pocket.

It’s a C75P Amber jigged bone Kiwi made in 2002 . I usually carry in a William Henry clip pouch . Plan to have two more pouches modified this week sometime. DanRanger_Ike wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 4:56 amThat is beautiful. What model is that? I don’t think I’ve seen one before.

Back in the pocket again. I get all into my knives with titanium or micarta scales, sometimes I forget how much I love linered G10.
I love my micarta Manix, but I love that sound of the lockup and close on this one a lot better. Not that it really matters, but I notice it.

You guys inspired me to kick the Chief out of my pocket today and go with a fat boy with all these Manix XL and Shaman pics.

That’s awesome. Always wanted a Kiwi, but sadly, the secondary market prices have been crazy on them the last few years. Enjoy carrying that gem!Manixguy@1994 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 5:09 amIt’s a C75P Amber jigged bone Kiwi made in 2002 . I usually carry in a William Henry clip pouch .
