I love the composition and the interplay of colors in Fly Fishing Rick's Chaparral photo.

Nice picture Mikey ! As a lefty I don’t whine too much of right only knives but this brute is an exception. Dan

Thank you, Dan. The Bombshell is really very nice.

I’ve decided this is pretty much my perfect combo for around town/weekends and non dirty days at work. I love all my Spydercos that I have kept for the long term, but something just hits me different with the Chef.

i went to smkw today...
.....
stretch 2 xl: very nice. i didn't feel any wobble in the copy i held. i didn't test it hard, but it felt as solid as my pac salt at least. i also hope for a salt version of this one.
.....
sage 5 lw: this knife is like mary poppins. practically perfect in every way. next time i need a knife smaller than my manix, i will get the sage 5 lw. i really liked it a lot.
.....
Great to have a place where one can actually handle a good share of the Spydie models... nothing like that around here...(I am not aware of any brick and mortar place in Salzburg that offers any Spydie nymore... :( )

- Stretch XL: Since I said in a recent post that I switched from that model to my Pac Salt 1 for a certain occasion cause I "wanted something sturdier": You are right, the Stretch XL does feel solid enough of course and I'd prefer it 90 % of the time over the Pac Salt (both in SE for me).
Just the (very usefull!) tip of my XL is not as sturdy as the one on my H1 Pac Salt, true also for the whole blade (very well tapered ffg VG10 vs no taper sabre hollow H1) I guess.

- Sage 5 LW: I never even held that model, but still, as I said before: This is "the" comp.lock model I'd love to try!! Looks to be perfect and for me to be the "better Para 3" (which I tried already).
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

yeah. you know how i feel about that hollow ground h1. i definitely like it a lot. i was referring mostly to the sturdiness of the pivot and not the blade itself. if i could have a hollow ground se h1 stretch xl with the original stretch blade shape (not straight spine) and a ffg pe lc200n stretch xl with the straight spine, that would be a pretty amazing combo.

i definitely prefer the sage over the para 3. it's better in every way that matters to me.

about the ability to handle the knives... don't be too jealous. i had to drive 7 hours to get there. even on our road trip, it was a planned stop that took us 45 minutes out of our way. i'm also traveling to colorado in a few weeks for work and will get to go to golden if i can convince my coworkers to take me. anyway, i'm just saying it is still quite the ordeal to have the opportunity for me as well.

i will say though, once you've handled a few of these knives and get an idea about what you like, you can look at specs and pictures and have a pretty solid idea about what to expect with each model. i had never handled a sage 5, but i knew 100% i would really like it. i had never seen a smock in person, but i knew everything about it that i experienced (i wouldn't like the ergos or the blade cutout, but the action would be great, etc.). i'm sure you are at the same point where you can tell what you will like and even have detailed reasoning without needing to hold the knife first.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Yeah man! Took some Cruwear and Micarta to slow down my love affair with the Polestar. The PM2 was my 2nd Spyderco and most carried until I made the mistake of getting an Endela. I've been watching this model for awhile looking at potential QC issues. This one is quite perfect. Not a thing to complain about. Military was next on my list, but with the announcement of the 2, I decided to hold out purely out of curiosity.
