I don't have an iPhone, but the camera in my LG is 12 Megapixel, well above the minimum size. I was just hoping to use something with better optics.
I do have my wife’s SLR that will shoot RAW at 6000x4000 but I have no idea how to use it. IPhone at least does all the work for you and makes it easy. I might have to try both.
The slr in raw is the best way to do it. But without the skill to shoot and edit a raw photo it would look like poo :(

As for iPhones, it depends on which model you have.

"Images should be no smaller than this):
Width: 2625 px
Height: 3375 px
Resolution: 300 ppi" at 8.5x11

My iPhone 8 makes pictures 3024 × 4032
which provides a skosh over 300 ppi at 8.5x11

That leaves scant room to crop a picture
and still meet the minimum.

But now I have a question.
Are pictures supposed to have been taken
during the 12 months between August 31,2021
and August 31, 2022 ?

You should be fine if you do not crop the picture much.

Model Name: C83GRD Persian Folder Red G-10 Sprint Run
Forum Name: SpyderNut

The graceful lines of the Persian's trailing point blade always seem to conjure memories of outdoor adventures. This knife was a special gift from my wife, a person with whom I am fortunate to share many outdoor adventures. In the background are a pair of antique snow shoes that my wife graciously allowed me to use to capture the shot. Best of luck to all who enter the contest! I am looking forward to seeing everyone's submissions. A big "thank you" to Spyderco for the opportunity to participate in the contest.

Keep playing with it and trying, you have time to figure it out. It was a good picture, was it totally B&W or was there some color?

Z-Wear Mule Small.jpg
I created this image and backdrop solely for this contest. The star of the show is my MT30 Z-Wear with custom handles I made from Red Coolibah Burl. The background is made of different wood planks that I plan to use for future handles including cherry, oak and birds eye maple. Spyderco makes great knives and the Mule team gives me a chance to use my skills from my other hobby, woodworking, to create a truly great and unique knife I can pass down to my children.

I uploaded my large image and put in the requested information. Once you upload your image, your information disappears and you just have a confirmation of an upload. If my information was not included please let me know.

Good luck everyone, can't wait to see more images.

Well, the minimum size is spelled out in the first post as 2625 pixels wide by 3375 pixels high and my old DSLR only goes to 2000 by 3000. I have point and shoots that go higher, but one of them gave me the pix that looked bad on a big screen. Maybe the other one will work better.
If you want to try your DSLR I can see how it upscales. It's a pretty minimal upscale vertically and only a little over 30% horizontally. That's not too drastic these days.

I agree, I think using a DSLR with good optics and upscaling it could work well. But I am not going to lie my iPhone can take pretty great pictures.

One of my favorite pictures so far or maybe it’s just the cool knife. What kind of camera did you use and did you do any post editing? The sharpness and colors of everything just pop.

I appreciate the offer, but I need to rework my subject first (square bandana backdrop kind of makes for a square picture) and try all the cameras. Of course, first I have to get out of quarantine, tested positive for Covid yesterday. We'll see what happens.

I think it is almost harder taking a good picture than it is coming up with a good idea. I tried my wife’s DSLR and struggled a lot with a static image. If I was good with the camera I would have just put a knife in a shallow river and took a picture with a high shutter speed to freeze the water. But my skills are not up to par for that.
