Cpm-T15
Who's excited for the CPM T-15 mule? I hope it does well so Spyderco uses it in a folder! How many have experience with any version of T-15. It's been around so long you would think it'd be more popular.
Re: Cpm-T15
I'm very interested. If Brother Larrin is surprised it hasn't been used, that's telling you something.

Re: Cpm-T15
Yeah, this is the one I'm most curious about given Larrin and Bluntcut's test.

Going to be a similar analogue to maxamet. I believe it ditches the cobalt. Should cut like mad.

I'm excited for mules in general, but steels I know little about are a little bit more attractive. T15 among them.

Re: Cpm-T15
T15 has cobalt, you're thinking of Rex 25. It does remind me of Maxamet and it should since Maxamet was based on T15.
I would like to try Rex 25 at some point to see if the cobalt makes a difference in edge retention or sharpening.

Did Larrin write an article on T15? Link?

Re: Cpm-T15
Not that I know of. It's one of the oldest CPM steels if not the oldest so it gets mentioned a lot. He might do one now that Spyderco is using it. He told me to check his book when I asked for carbide % in T15 so maybe there's something in there.
I did some research and found a few papers that characterized T15. That led me to some research the US government had done. It delt with loss of access to cobalt and that's where I found out about Rex 25.
Re: Cpm-T15
It's one of the steels he tests and discusses in this article:

Re: Cpm-T15
This article also mentions the ingot and CPM versions of T-15. He hasn't discussed it to the level he has other steels though. I've been playing around with his predictive CATRA and you need the carbide volumes to do so. He has them listed for a lot of steels even ones he hasn't tested but not T-15. I'm curious what carbide volumes Thermocalc gives for CPM-T15.Gtscotty wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 8:05 amIt's one of the steels he tests and discusses in this article:

Re: Cpm-T15
Is there such a thing as a knife steel connoisseur? I feel since I found Spyderco and Larrin Thomas' website I'm on the road to becoming one.
Re: Cpm-T15
Welcome to the obsession Bemo.
Re: Cpm-T15
Welcome indeed !
I for one am really pumped about this one ! I'm pumped about every steels, but between all that was announced it's the most susceptible to (IMHO) surprise me in use.

In the collection : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Re: Cpm-T15
All of the upcoming steels have me excited... T-15 since spyderco is offering it to the knife world.

Hi, Bemo:
We use the term Steel Junkie. It's not as fancy I suppose, but it's pretty accurate.
