Most of the people I've seen complaining about the liner lock on the Military are complaining that it *is* a liner lock and refuse to even try a Military just because of that. Their loss.u.w. wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 3:08 pmu.w. wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 3:07 pmI recall folks complaining about the liner lock "here and there" in the past (I like it very much personally). Also, the compression lock IS Spyderco's lock, so...Wartstein wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 7:10 amYes, as discussed in other threads: Obviously there are not too few who feel that changing the locktype on the Millie is not just "marginal".yablanowitz wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 6:24 am
That's pretty much the whole point of the Military. A large, yet light knife that can be opened, used and closed even with gloves on. It was made to work hard without weighing you down. I love the Chief, but it isn't what I reach for at work.
Not the end of the world of course, but takes away a part many particularly liked on the Millie in real use.
Not entirely sure why they changed to a comp.lock tbh.
Eric mentions in a vid that it would add strength, which is certainly true.
But then: Who did ever feel the Millie linerlock would be too weak?
Lastly, perhaps just regular ole' "marketing"...

I can certainly understand peoples preferences, likes and dislikes for certain locks but the great debates on lock strength are simply laughable.yablanowitz wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 7:23 pmMost of the people I've seen complaining about the liner lock on the Military are complaining that it *is* a liner lock and refuse to even try a Military just because of that. If you were to take it all seriously you wouldn’t consider buying a folder for fear of loosing fingers. Or perhaps you’d only buy one of those Cold Steel locks or whatever nonsense that will hold 7,902 Ton before they fail and still be weary if you put the knife to “hard” use because you may load the lock to 7,903 Ton while trying to cut something with the blade’s blunt spine and loose your fingers anyhow. Ah, hahaha, ah, hahaha, ah, hahaha!
Anyone who’d ever used a slip joint would be easily distinguishable because they’d be missing fingers.

Well that’s it, anyone who has used a slipjoint (and who hasn’t?) has had it ingrained into their psyches not to place reverse pressure on the blade. That doesn’t go away when they start using locking folders. Lateral pressure might be a problem, but all that slipjoint use makes it unlikely that anyone will put too much pressure on the pivot.

Hi
First time poster here.
Am I right in saying that none of the Military 1's have Sal's signature mark on the blade?
Thanks.

Thanks Accutron.
Re: The Completely Unnecessary Military Appreciation Thread!
Wonder if they'll use the flat/flush to the handles pivot screws on the Military 1 as a CQI....many of the other Golden made knives have gone that route.

Re: The Completely Unnecessary Military Appreciation Thread!
Dear Rollbar:
Part of the reason for the flat screws is to facilitate a four-position clip--as in the transition from the Para Military to the Para Military 2. The liners on the original Military don't support that, so there's not much advantage in making the screw change.
Stay safe,
Mike

No matter how much they say the Military isn't going away, I have no doubt they will not make any interesting sprints again. The Military is retired and will only be produced in small, S30V only, batches.

I feel it necessary to express my appreciation for the fact that they even offer this in a dedicated left handed configuration. Hoping for a lefty shaman
Re: The Completely Unnecessary Military Appreciation Thread!
Spyderco is strategic in its Lefty releases. It seems to be those knives which are determined to be appropriate as weapon retention backups that get the treatment, so; they are aimed at Righties who need a Lefty knife in their work, rather than us Leftys, per se. That’s okay. We get to reap the benefits. I’m thankful I was able to get a Lefty MM.
