It will be interesting to see which of the Two becomes the better seller.
I’m definitely buying one, its like a larger PM2. The PM2 is just a bit too small for my hands and this looks perfect.
That's exactly what it is, Paramilitary XL. Contrarians needed it to be called the Military 2. No matter how many said its clearly a Paramilitary. I hope they FEEL satisfied so we can move on. :zipper

i guess spyderco are contrarians since they named their own knife the military 2.

i'm not sure why people think it's ruined. it's only marginally different. it's a different lock, and has more clip positions and a bigger choil. the changes are hardly earth shattering. how is it ruined?
it isn't. it's just been made better. how many folks do you see rocking a para 1 these days? bet you won't see many military 1's being posted here in five years either.

The thing I'm most excited for is no cut out in the scales for the liner lock. This will make it more comfortable for me.

I'm excited for it. Maybe we'll finally start getting new steel variants of this Military 2. I don't expect this to supplant the original Military as my favorite, but it's been quite some time since we saw a new Military. Hopefully the 2 will change that.

The thing Im most excited for is the forward finger guard in the behind the choil grip. Its my only real complaint of the current military.

I almost don´t know anymore in which of the Millie 2 threads I should reply... :grin-sweat

- Of course the Millie 2 has not "ruined" the platform, tbh I think it would be a bit silly to say that - it looks like a great knife, for some a bit better, for some a bit "worse" than the great Millie "1"

- BUT: It is different indeed, and for me different in a way that just make it more a "PM 4 / PM2 XL" than a "Millie 2"

- Are the differences to the Millie "1" just "marginally"? This is at least debatable: Different choil, different lock - if this is just "marginally" one could also almost say a Stretch or even Manix is basically the same knife as a PM2.

- And for me the lock happens to make a noticeable difference, especially in a big outdoor folder like the Millie. Not to few have pointed out here how exceptionally well the Millie linerlock functions , with gloves or cold wet hands. On the other hand I´ve never read any account that the Millie linerlock failed or was to weak. The biggest headscratcher for me though is always the "safety" and "fingers out of the blade path" thing: I personally am not concerned with that at all anyway, but if I was: This is about the fingers not get hit by the actual cutting edge, right? And when it comes to THIS a linerlock knife WITH finger choil is even safer than a comp.lock knife, plus is more naturally and secure in hand while operating the lock in a way that the finger are kept "safe" from the edge.
Also, totally contrary to Vivi: In prolongued use for me a linerlock is more ergonomic than a comp.lock. The former feels almost like a chamfering for my fingers, while the comp.lock cutout can dig into the hand in harder use. This is very subjective of course, and depending on "hand geometry" and how one holds a knife - but at least I know I am not the only one who notices that comp.lock cutout thing (in normal use really not an issue though, to be fair)

- @Vivi: I think the "Who still carries a Para 1" example is not really comparable:
For one: Where to get a Para 1, and where to get it in all the variants the PM 2 comes in?
Then: From what I can see: I´d actually gladly take a Para 1 over a PM 2 if the "1" had a linerlock - like the Millie "1" does offer (from what I can see I´d also prefer the choil of the Para 1, but not the shorter blade)

- Also, I think you don´t see many Mille (1)s posted here, cause they almost can´t be found from what I read - and people generally seem to be going for smaller folders these days (and the Millie just feels and actually is a bit bigger than even a Chief, Endura, Stretch XL)

- @ Fireman: Sure both will be available and as others have shown me there actually ARE models where two iterations are still
in production! But still: The existence of the "improved" Millie 2 (and "improved just IS what many - especially "you tube knife "reviewers" who mostly are NOT that - will call it) will contribute to the myth of the "outdated", "inferior" linerlock on higher end Spydies. When in fact it has clear advantages over other locks! (Like those other locks have over each other including the linerlock of course)
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

I agree with the comment that I feel like I fell asleep and missed the party. I have seen 1 picture. The knife hasn’t been announced, that I’ve seen. How is it knife of the year? I’m interested to try it but let’s get it out in the public first.

warstein:

My point is when the Para 1 > 2 transition happened, everyone seemed to welcome the changes. One way clip to four way. Improved choil. Re-designed ergonomics in general. Longer blade.

Those same changes are being made to the Military now. Something I've asked for as far back as 2011-2012.

There's been a pretty big crowd here lamenting this Military 2. I can understand, I was sad to see the Pacific Salt 1 recently go.

But I think every change being made will make the Military a better knife in the long run.

Four way clip makes it more comfortable for people to carry.

The deeper choil will give a more secure & comfortable grip. I know this from experience, having compared the Para 1 & 2 head to head. The para 2 style choil is miles better IMO.

The compression lock isn't a big deal to me vs a liner lock, but the big advantage I see is improved ergos via no longer needing a cut-out for the liner lock.

I've gone as far as to make cardboard mock-ups of a Military handle without that cut out and for me it makes a big difference.

With my grip my thumb is always forward of the comp lock scale cut-out, and my palm never digs into it during hard cuts. I'm sure hand size variances and how you grip your knife can make this an issue for others though.

All in all I'm excited about having a factory tip up Military with improved ergonomics. Where I live I never really need gloves, but I can operate a compression lock just fine with them on if need be.

I'm pretty confident that a lot of people that aren't sure about the Military 2 will change their minds once they handle it. This is the exact knife I pictured as my EDC the day I bought a Para 2 ~10 years ago.

Long time Millie user here. If access to the comp lock works with rigging gloves on I’ll entertain buying one. If it comes serrated I’ll definitely buy one!

While all those folk calling for deeper carry and tip up have had their wish’s granted, i think they’ll literally need some **** deep pockets.
