Next Possible Sprint Run, Let's Talk?

#1

Post by JD Spydo »

With the recent return of the C-60 Ayoob model we all have a lot to be very thankful for. Because there are actually quite a few of us who love the old School Spyderco models. Personally I tend to focus on the time slot I like to refer to as the GOLDEN ERA Of Spyders ( 1998-2004). Yes the C-60 Ayoob was one of many that came out of that brilliant era of Spyderco classics and we are so blessed that the Spyderco factory listened to us and responded!!

But I'm not wanting to stop there. Because there are other great old school Spyderco models ( especially from the GOLDEN ERA) that I would personally love to see return with new materials and timely modifications.

I have 2 models in mind from that era that I believe would do well to return with newer/better blade steels. My all time favorite Spyderco fixed blade model is the original TEMPERANCE 1 model from the 2004 line up. It was one of the very few fixed blades that was offered in both PE & SE>> and it excels in both edge types. I've thought for some time now that if they were to reintroduce the TEMP 1 in both edge types in the SALT SERIES that it would make for a great affordable fixed blade for the avid outdoorsman and for use in harsh environments.

Second there is the Howard Viele C-42 model from the late 90s. It was a genius designed folder that was available in both SE and PE and excelled in both edge types and becoming extremely hard to find. Those are two great old school Spyderco models that I'm certain would also do well in a Sprint Run IMO. Let's talk about those two models and maybe other possible models from that era for a possible Sprint Run.

I have a request that is maybe a bit outrages but the original native with the hollowground and the swedge would be a sprintrun i would like to see. But i guess since there is the native 5 spyderco will never bring that one back again. ☹️ Since i was really collecting those days i never bought that model because my funds wer going to more expensive spyders and now that i would like it i can not find it anymore 😝 Oh and maybe the ocelot can make a return?

I don’t know if these fall in your date range JD, but I would love the JD Smith or Renegade to come back in their original form.

I just wish spyderco will continue producing their two greatest modern edc folders to date. Caly 3 & 3.5. Then I’d be just fine with whatever else they make.

How about an ikuchi sprint, Canis sprint, or just fix the **** q ball. That is a perfect small knife with a horridly implemented lock system. On paper it’s awesome. Visually it’s awesome. In practice it is detestable.

I want a Pingo Sprint with a thinner edge and a better steel.

Joe I've never had a Temperance 1 but it looks like the Jumpmaster 2 is the spiritual successor of the Temp 1.

It's more or less the exact same knife with a different grind and in Salt flavor. So, in that case what I would be VERY VERY VERY interested in is a SE MagnaCut Jumpmaster 2 with FFG.

The most iconic spyderco deserves a sprint. I can only dream of an old school tuffram SE Police in SPY27. I hope Sal reads this !

I'd have to agree with this. Please CBBL the Qball!

I’d really love a Wayne Goddard in Cruwear and Micarta.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

100% these two. I keep hoping to see these get re released in some form or another. Excellent designs.

Though I also hope it’s not the blade hq M4 as my sweat corrodes literally everything it touches :'(

I also love the RENEGADE and JD Smith models both!!

I've had dreams of a new RENEGADE with a blade with one of the Supersteels and a G-10 handle. I actually EDCed a RENEGADE almost 15 years ago. Even with the antiquated GIN-1 blade steel it was a really nice Every Day Carry.

If I were to pick from the two of those I would go with the RENEGADE. Simply because we've already had a Sprint Run of the JD Smith.
