Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
The Caly 3.5 has wonderful ergonomics and I love the look. Unfortunately, the two I tried very recently had issues. I hope they can get this solved because the design is fantastic and I would love to own one (or two). It really is a wonderful design, but if it isn’t executed properly, well… at the cost for the CF with ZDP 189, I can’t justify it personally.
Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
I'm hoping the FRN version remains really slim, and doesn't gain width like most of the Seki FRN vs G10 versions.

Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
I would like it to actually have contouring similar to the CF Damascus Caly. The feel of that particular Caly is amazing in hand.
I’m a little sad to read that it’s still a ways away, I remember holding the prototype a few years back now at the OKCA show. I do hope they improved the FRN texture since then to be more pronounced like the Delica and Native 5, the proto had some limp texture pattern.

Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
Is it safe to assume they'll employ nested liners in this model?
Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
Amen to that!
Agree, the size of the blade is surprising for the compact size when closed!
I would argue it's the most evolved, refined, and nearly perfect folder that Spyderco has ever made, but that's just this afi's opinion. The Chap might come close.

Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
Nested liners, or even full liners if they can achieve the tolerances of the G10 models. Not sure if possible with FRN.
But yes, definitely liners and PB washers. That would be really exciting!

Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
Sal, with your fondness for this model, why not bring it home? Why not make it in Golden! I would be willing to wait extra. And it, I would hope, make a G10 version more realistic at some point.

I second this!

I support this idea too. Calys made in golden would be excellent

I’ve a zdp/cf Caly 3.5 waiting for me right now at the post office!
Too bad they don’t reopen for another 13 hours and 43 minutes….

Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
I'm all for that too but the request to move the Caly to Golden has been made before and I'm pretty sure Sal said that they don't like to take models away from the various makers. I assume it would be considered a negative thing to the maker, maybe even dishonorable. I think that's one of the reasons Sal and Eric have been so patient with Moki while they try to get their quality back up to where it used to be

Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
Hi Peter, Jeff, Tristan,
Golden is really backed up so it would be years before we could make it here. We're increasing quantity every month in Golden, but it will take completion of the current expansion to really make a difference. Then, our first obligation is to make enough of what we're already making.
Also, as Sharp Guy mentioned, we like to keep models with the same makers unless there is some reason why we cannot.

Thanks for the info. Sal!
Then we are on Team Moki Make More Calys. I'm glad the CFs are back in production. Hopefully Lightweight will get the model into more hands to experience it due to the price point. As light and small of a footprint it has, I think a lot of lightweight fans would even appreciate a G10 version.

Re: Caly 3.5 LW status
Makes sense. the Caly is wonderful as a Japanese made model, especially when you’re able to do some exotic steel sprint runs, Hopefully mores to come in the future. Thank you Sal

Very pleased to hear this. If COVID taught the world anything, it's the need for products made locally--wherever local is. With long supply chains, you never know. I'm glad that Colorado-local is gearing up.

Thanx Bolster.
It's just my opinion, but I think that Americans need to think hard about China in general. We also need to build more in the US.

There's good, bad and indifferent in every Nationality, ethnicity and culture. I think Sal has devoted much painstaking effort to provide us with good ones. Whatever your feelings, there is no denying that China has become an industrial giant. I do hope the Golden expansion is a massive success. It can't come soon enough.
