Fishing knife

#1

Post by TSINGA »

I'm looking for a new plain edged, fixed blade, salt water fishing knife but don't care for the looks of the black blade on the current Aqua Salt. Will the yellow handled, uncoated blade Aqua Salt ever return? What about an Aqua Salt with a LC200N uncoated blade? The Waterway may be an option, are there any other suggestions?

The satin yellow Aqua Salt has not been discontinued so I’m sure it will be back in stock eventually. (Edit: It actually was discontinued.) I haven’t checked any retailers but there are so many these days that someone might currently have it stock.

The Waterway has been my Saltwater fishing knife for a couple years now. Handles everything I need it to do with ease. Slices up bait well and the scales provide great grip even with wet or slimy hands. The Waterway would be my suggestion.

Aqua salt is nice but what really has my attention is the waterway.

I really want to get my hands on one.

Possibly the siren

I don't see it listed on Spyderco's website:https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/category/fixed-blades

Are you sure it hasn't been discontinued? If it has, the Waterway may be my best option.

I had not recalled seeing it on any discontinued list going back a few years but I am mistaken. Apparently the satin/yellow Aqua Salt was discontinued at some point, but I am unsure of exactly when.

The Fish Hunter is still offered with the same yellow handle as the Aqua Salt though. The Fish Hunter is also another model that could serve well as a saltwater fishing knife.

I agree with you about the uncoated blade. I try to avoid anything that makes my outdoors knives less visible. For me, it's the Waterway. It's my favorite Spyderco knife. I wish it came with a yellow handle, for the same reason I prefer uncoated blades. I also wish for an SE version, so I could have both!

Only good things to say about the Waterway, catch one if you can. I've been using one on fish only and giggling at how well it slices, and using a Pacific Salt H1 in the pocket for everything else.

If real question is, when do you want a knife? If now, then the Fish Hunter is your best bet. If you are keen to wait.... sooo many options, eh!

Caribbean or siren should do the trick.

I don't abuse my knives but I am concerned the Waterway's tip may not be as durable as the Aqua Salt. If anyone owns both please comment.

I don't own the Aqua Salt, but I suspect you are right. I went for the Waterway anyway, because I like everything else about it, and I figure the tip is durable enough. That said, if I ever stumbled across a reasonably price Aqua Salt with a yellow handle, I'd jump on it.

There are threads that deal with all 3 of the fixed-blade fishing knives. Try googling "spyderco forum waterway aqua salt fish hunter." That'll work better than using the forum search function.

If only they made a Phil Wilson fixed design in a very corrosion resistant steel. It would probably have to cost at least three or four times that of the Bow River, but I would definitely ante up.

I really enjoy my Waterway as it is, but yes, a yellow handle and SE would make it even better!

The Waterway hasn't been available for purchase for over a year now.
