Good to see Case getting some love on here. My current favorite Case is a DLT Trading exclusive in the same pattern.
Hi J, they’re just an old classic and the type of pocket knife I grew up with so I’ll always have a soft spot for them.

I’d pay serious money for one with natural bone scales, silver nickel liners and bolster and Maxamet or similar blade. :winking-tongue
Whe I was a kid staying in Southern Illinois at my grandparents my grandfather came home from an estate sale . He declared he got this whole box of stuff for $5.00 . My grandmother looked at me and said , “ and I bet you anything there is a Case knife in that box of stuff. “ She was right ! Dan

Haha, noooo...some random ship I think my dad inherited from my grandparents that they have on display randomly in their house. It doesn't go with anything style wise that they have, I always thought it was cool when I was kid and pretended I was sailing with it haha! As an only child, I had to have quite the imagination :zany

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

I mean it is pretty cool. Growing up I would have tried to play with that and gotten whooped just for thinking about trying to play with that ship lol

I used to try to put lego men or sometimes my ninja turtles in there, which as an adult I realized would never work haha. I actually took that photo on Easter and had to hide from everyone while doing it to avoid embarrassment haha!! I know it's understood around these parts.

Hahaha, yep!! I've been caught a few times myself. It's most embarrassing when it happens at work for me. Particularly when it's someone that doesn't already know I'm a knife nut.

When I first got my Guardian 3 Wharnie I took a photo in my warehouse with it attached to my belt, just for others here to see the fitment. Well I had a maintenance guy enter the area as I was doing it, pulling up my shirt a bit to show it on my belt...he said he thought I was taking, as I'll say here to keep it PG, "an inappropriate photo" hahahaha! That was definitely the most embarrassing. So I obviously had to explain.

Same for me, Jim.. I had wanted a ZT 0640 since they first came out, but never managed to pull the trigger on it. I really loved the overall look of the design but was always just put-off enough by my complete indifference to stock photos of the weird green CF scales and complaints about how awful the pocket clip is. Finally my interest in the design (aided by a 10% off coupon code at WMK haha) took over and I ordered one.. it arrived this past saturday, and I fell in love with the knife immediately! Reminds me a bit of these two..

Image

All three have similar(ish) neutral handle designs, blade profiles, overall sizes & weights, etc. Although the closed lengths are nearly identical, the 0640 does manage and extra ~1/4 inch or so of sharpened edge.. nice!

Image

I'm not big on CF in general, but these scales actually look really nice in person, imo.. they have almost more of an olive-drab, camo'ey look vs. the toxic/puke green they appear to be in some pictures online haha. I had planned to swap them out for micarta, but it turns out, I really like them as they are! The stock pocket clip is.. ok. It provides an extremely shallow carry and the "bill" is very shallow as well, which seems to be the common complaint among the online reviewers. I have no issues getting it into the pocket of my usual wrangler jeans, but I do see how it might be difficult with thicker work pants or pants with a reinforced pocket lip. The trade-off is that the clip has very little impact on your palm during actual use, so no hot spots. I also think it looks very nice aesthetically. I may end up putting an MXG gear clip on there eventually for a deeper carry, but the long and short of it is.. I don't hate the stock clip anywhere near as much as the internet told me I would.

Overall, I think the 0640 is a great knife and is extremely well executed by ZT. Excellent overall f&f, really smooth action, fantastic neutral ergos.. just really nice all around, imo. I wish I had picked it up earlier. Hah, trying my best to enable you here.. i'll see myself out now..

The 0640 is such a great knife. The clip is the same as Benchmade, so there are lots of options out there.

That micarta looks amazing on there! I may have to reinstate my plans for a micarta-scaled 0640 haha..

Based on all the reviews saying how bad the stock pocket clip is, I ordered a clip direct from Emerson (thought it would be a cool nod to the designer..) on the same day I ordered my 0640. It's pretty good on there.. definitely easier into the pants, but is larger and changes the grip a bit.. I think I actually prefer the stock ZT clip. The Bugout clip looks good as well.. I think I have a few of those laying around, I'll have to try it out.. good tip, thanks Abba!
