That's an awesome collection!

MRS-30... K10 Kosher Butchering Knife... Here's a fairly recent thread with some links that popped up a few days after your previous "Comprehensive List of Spyderco Steels" thread... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=91832
Ha. I was sure someone would have something I'd missed. Well I guess I'm back to almost there. Your posts cost me tons of money but again thanks for all the work with the new releases.

I absolutely will do that. Thank you, Sal. You're the best.

I needed to know. Somehow I missed that thread. It was a good read. I had never even heard of that knife.

Now you can answer the question: what's the best steel? ;) ;)

I believe that MRS-30 was the steel that Al Mar used for his introductory series of knives. He called it RS-30. I wonder if the M stands for Masahiro. The only other steel missing is AUS8W which was used for the KX05 Sashimi (Yanagiba) knife: https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/detail ... i-Wood/139

This steel list needs to go into the history thread.

Definitely no one answer to that. For folders my favorites are Rex45 and H1. I haven't figured out my favorite for fixed blades just yet.

I've only parted with 3 Spyderco knives since I started the collection. I sold a LW Tenacious and a Z-Cut that I accidentally double ordered and one Tenacious met a watery grave.

Maybe some day I'll get them all out for a photo but that sounds like a lot of work.
I'd guess including all brands there are around 400 total knives and 270ish are Spydercos. I do plan on taking a picture of one of every steel soon.

I have a better version of the list in a different thread which I'm about to bump in about 2 minutes I edit it to add the MRS-30 and the AUS-8W.

Thanx Brian,

yes, it's the same as Al Mar's original steel. I don't think the M stands for Masahiro as the steel is made by Daido.

As to AUS8W, I think I only have one of those and it's in my kitchen. If I come across one as I clean up my office, I'll think of Mike???

Yes. Please do. I feel like that might be very difficult to track down. I guessed your kitchen would be the only sure place that I could think of where one might be... with a folded piece of rice paper nearby? :winking-tongue

I only forgot it from the list. I have a couple of this one really cool fixed blade called the Serrata... that I suspect you've heard of. I'm also pretty sure that is the same thing as the M.I.M. 440C from the S.

Congratulations Mike! How long did this take you? At what point did you look at your collection and decide, “hmmmm, I think I can find ‘em all”?

Overall it took a few years but I think when my steel count was in the 40-50 range I decided to try to figure out how many there actually were and how far I was from it. Once I made the decision it took about 8 months to finish up... mostly. Just found out there are two more that my research didn't turn up.
