Rivers Edge Cutlery Exclusive delica issue ?

#1

Post by BugBite84 »

Super excited about this knife pre ordered it and finally received it today, knife is solid no blade play up down side to side blade centering is alright fit and finish is great but there’s one issue that literally stuck out at me and it’s the lock bar is “proud” or not sitting flush in the locked position, I own a lot of spyderco seki locks backs that I have hand picked but this is my first I’ve ordered in awhile and wanted to make sure that its safe to use and that the lock bar is engaging properly, let me know what you all think, I’ll try and post a picture here shortly.

It depends.
It could be fine or it could have some gunk in the lockwell or stuck to the bottom of the lockbar preventing ideal lockup.

Sometimes the lockbars are just a little up or down and everything is fine.

If it is some lint or whatever a disassembly and cleaning would certainly take care of the issue.
I had to do this with my manbug wharncliffe as the lock would actually disengage with enough thumb pressure. I think it was just a piece of compressed pocket lint but its fine now.

Just talked to distributor and they checked a dozen of the same knives and said they all had the same lock bar situation so I assume everything is alright will use it and see how it holds up.

This might show the picture more detailed, the thumbnail pic isn’t as clear and doesn’t show how much lock bar is really sticking up.

I just checked a bunch of my seki backlocks. Some are flush, some sit up a bit. If lockup is fine then I wouldnt worry about it.

Looks fine to me.

None of my Seki lockbars sit perfectly flush. All the Moki knives I’ve seen are.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I will echo VooDooChild's thoughts here and that some of mine have this and some do not.
My Delica k390 Wharncliffe looks like yours when opened, I am carrying it right now. It locks up tight and I have had no issues. I would say as long as it isn't bothering your hand in use and it does lock tight, carry on!

Yep the bump is not to appealing and can definitely be felt when thumb is up on the jimping, I’m usually picky when buying new knives so this kinda bothered me also, that’s why I usually try and buy knives especially seki lock backs in person all my others were hand picked and almost perfect.

If it is up enough that you can feel it when using it, I would be bothered by it too... I think I have been lucky none of mine are that far off.
