I am frustrated. I sent my Gillette Tech to be re-plated, but the folks are now on quarantine because someone had COVID. I hope I'll get it next week.

Today I tried one of the two Vokshod blades I got in my sample pack a few weeks ago. I preferred it to the equally mild Timor. The mild blades are a little more work but both have given me great, irritation free, results. It’s a shame but I don’t think I’ll be buying anything made in Russia for a while.

I came to the same conclusion about the Astra blades. Gillette bought the brand and moved production from the Czech Republic to Russia. That’s 2 strikes.

Astras are good blades. It's too bad that Putin has been pootin' on his country's future.

The last two days I put a pre-war Astra blade in my medium Ti Henson and got a BBS (baby butt smooth) shave in two passes. I only had to touch up near my ears. No irritation, no weepers. Very smooth.

Used my Henson medium the last times.
Loosen the head a little bit.
Very efficient.
1 pass was quite enough.

Thinking of getting a Henson aggressive.
Anyone has an experience of it?

I don't. The only aggressive is the Ti22. My medium is more than enough for me, especially if I watch my angle.

What I can say is that the Ti22 is the finest razor I've ever used. The fit and finish on mine are flawless and you can see the machining excellence in the tight tolerances. The extra weight really makes it shave wonderfully.

I think if you experiment with blades you might not have to buy another razor.

So, you prefer the Medium over the aggressive?

Is the aggressive too aggressive?
I saw the jump from medium to aggressive is higher then mild to medium.

I tried a few different blades but the best are the feather.
Gillette from supermarket are crap.

If you have gorilla hair then maybe the aggressive is right for you. Everyone is different. For me, I like the medium and I like the mild, but for different reasons. I would not like the aggressive. If they ever come out with one in the aluminum I would buy one just to keep, but I really don't like aggressive razors. You actually might like it, however. If you think the medium is not doing it for you, then get the aggressive Titanium. If you don't like it, you can sell it for about what you pay for it on Badger and Blade very quickly. It is a much sought after razor. Henson's sell quickly.

OK.
Titanium’s are out of stock so I have more time to think about.

Used my Rocca (is aggressive for me) and 1 pass was quite enough.
I will try the mild next time.

Maybe also my technique improved lately.

@doc dan: anything on your razor list right now?

Not anything to buy, right now. I have enough razors to play with. I was thinking of selling a bunch of them, in fact. The only new thing is that I got word my antique Gillette Tech that I was having re-gold plated is ready. I can't wait to get it and start shaving with it some.

Only if they market it as the Ghost Shaver and say things like “Can’t stop the signal!”

Well, I got the Tech back from having it electro plated. It is a 1946-49 Gillette Gold Tech Fat Handle. It had little gold left when I won it in a contest. That is probably why I won it. Anyway, I had it re-plated and got it back today.

I shaved with it as soon as I disinfected it. I got a near BBS shave in two very smooth and comfortable passes.

I think on later models they changed the blade gap. But on this one the blade is bent like a Henson. Sweet.

Nice!

As an aside, I saw the Edwin Jagger factory on one of those “How it’s made” TV shows yesterday. They make the 3one6 six out of powdered steel, mixed to a putty with binders, moulded oversized, and then vacuum forged to remove the binders. Fascinating.

That would be fascinating. I found the one I posted above, but it shows a Merkur being made from zinc/zamax.

I can’t wait to start arguing about if MIM razors outperform and outlast traditionally manufactured razors 😁

I shaved with my Merkur Futur today (loaded up with a Merkur blade), definitely the last day for that blade - took one pass in each direction to achieve good results. Maybe I'll try a Feather on a less-sensitive setting.

Frankly, I rarely use my razor to shave anymore - I just use a wahl peanut and keep the stubble to prove to my fiancée that I'm capable of growing facial hair.

It is a nice feeling every once in awhile though, and I got a fresh haircut for the first time in months so I decided to go all-in on the fresh and clean look.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
