Pretty sure he's well aware of the condition of the knife he bought, especially given the missing pivot screw... Not sure what point your post was supposed to serve (complete with the red glow font), other than pointing out the obvious. He never claimed to have purchased a BNIB one.

Do you have any good hardware stores near? My local Ace Hardware has a huge selection of screws etc. If the hardware store doesn't have something that fits maybe they have a thread gauge to use.Cheddarnut wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 10:43 pm
This knife is so capable it can actually function WITHOUT A PIVOT SCREW. But I'm hoping it doesn't have to. Having contacted W&R they suggested I send the knife in to see if they could find a screw that fit, as its discontinuation means they don't have a screw on hand specifically for this model. I'm not comfortable sending it in from over the border in the Canadian tundra, and was hoping somebody might know the thread size etc, and/or know of a source that could supply the correct screw.
I can't wait to put this knife through its paces, preferably in a safe and secure way.
Do you plan on taking the knife apart? If not you can use a small wooden dowel or punch etc. that is close to the size of the pin. Use it to push the pin out and keep everything on the knife in place. That way you don't have to take the whole knife around looking for a screw that fits. Once you know the thread size you should be able to find a screw on one of the knife making supply websites.

I always wanted one of these but the VG-10 scared me off. Hopefully a new run comes out and a new version too. Magnacut and Cruwear please.

What we really need is a Spyderco Tatanka II or Spyderco Native Chief XL.
Sounds good to me, just make it look like a Native Chief XL, and throw in decent steel, and I'll buy at least 3 of them if I can.

Re: Tatanka Pseudo Review (and Pivot Screw Question)
I am NOT against other large knives. I've watched for many many months people asking for this or that(modification or knife), and if Spyderco is amenable to their wishes, I figured, well I may as well ask too.JAS777 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 5:56 pmYes ill take at 2 or 3 native chief XL's too! I wish Sal would weigh in and give those of us wanting a Native Chief XL some good news. I'm all in for a Spyderco Tatanka II too! Just make them S30V or better and I'll be happy as a clam in the Pacific!!!

This thread is making me seriously want one of these. I'd be in for the full-size item or a slightly smaller one.

Maybe he just had some extra red font lying around and needed to invent a reason to use it!

Re: Tatanka Pseudo Review (and Pivot Screw Question)
Sound advice, hereiamu1, it would definitely create less of a stir if i have to screw hunt to pop the dowel in and only take the female pivot half around town, so as not to be known as “that guy who came in with a small sword looking for a screw”. W&R is on it currently (thanks Charlynn!!) but if that falls through i will employ your tiphereiamu1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 3:41 pmDo you have any good hardware stores near? Thanks Snacktime, it’s always easier to pop a spydie into rotation when the “new knife voodoo” has already been dealt with by a previous owner. Plus I like character :)
