As said, I persoanally am more than happy with VG10.
And I personalky love the linered, but still light Delica(-handle).
So: Perfect combo for me.

Still: One option that perhaps would attract even more people and still be really easy to sharpen and modify the edge:
Make it a linerless Salt 2 high performance "Delica" in LC200N.
I like this idea!

Hey Sal,
if you're reading this, will the heat treat be the same as the standard VG-10 Delica? Or will it be run a little harder? Optimized for edge stability? Etc.

Interestingly this is something I was thinking about a little earlier today too.

The VG-10 on my Stretch 1 could de-burr a bit better (I'm carrying it again this week). I sharpened it yesterday, which is why the thoughts were there today when I thought about this thread.

We'll get what we get of course, but I hope it is run a touch ???? harder ????, if that is what would aid, or help it a little, in sharpening and de-burring. If running it a little harder would bump it's edge holding, that would be pretty cool too.

I'm excited for it to be available though, as I've mentioned

I've got a feeling this is going to be essentially a "factory regrind", nothing more and nothing less. Different blade grind geometry to slice better, that's it.

Agreed. Besides if they change more than one variable our tests will be less meaningful.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Never seen VG-10 run any harder than 60Rc by anybody, far as I recall. I do really believe that thin edges benefit from a bit higher hardness to improve stability. Depends a bit on the steel but often even 61-62 can be a real improvement in my experience.
Because desolate places allow us to breathe. And most people don't even know they're out of breath.

Heat treat is more than just hardness. When I started the original high performance thread after hearing Davids idea I envisioned performance not only in terms of geometry, but in heat treat meant to optimize the steels best qualities. A heat treat that embraced trade offs in some areas for performance in others. (I essentially wanted a Spyderco folder that embodied BBB's fixed blade design philosophy)

This first iteration being a straight ahead geometry test seems necessary to get the ball rolling. Im excited, and looking foward to it. I know it will work. Geometry cuts, and people will like the knife. Which will hopefully allow for other 'performance' tests beyond just geometry in the future. I think when people get the trifecta of high performance steel, specialized heat treat, and extreme geometry it will be magic.

But we have to make sure we can walk before we run.

I’ll probably buy one, and it will probably be really good and I’ll probably be really satisfied. Still, I must admit, I consider it more of an investment/ gamble to increase the possibility that we someday see a batch of magnacut HPD’s

VG10 at least allows us to test directly against the standard Delicas.
Good point. More steels will come if well received. Keeping the steel the same highlights only the difference in geometry.

That's all most of use were really asking for. Thinner grinds. This will give users the opportunity to see the benefits of thinner grinds, and hopefully fall in love. An increase in demand for thinner grinds will hopefully lead to more models with thin grinds, or total adoption across their entire lineup. That's the goal.

You and I know that, it just seems a lot of people are expecting some uber steel knife with special whatever. Maybe (hopefully) we see that, but probably not right out of the gate.

It makes you wonder if dealers are already signing up for High Performance Delica exclusives that we'll see in a couple years. :thinking

I think about this all the time. I bet you there are already a slew of MagnaCut exclusive orders just waiting, and that's besides whatever sprints Spyderco themselves plan on doing.

Is this waiting for the upcoming reveal (fall 2021) to launch?

Im assuming we wont see these until next year. Production is backed waaaaay up because of the pandemic. We've still got knives from several reveals that haven't been made yet, and regular production models that need restocking too.

I know I’m resurrecting an old thread but it was either that or start a new one.

Just to check myself, is the current production saber grind vg-10 delica the high performance one from this thread.

Or is the high perf delica still coming?

Unless he was talking about a different knife, sal mentioned he was carrying the 'edgeratti' prototype last week.

If we're still at the prototype phase it could be a ways off yet. When he says he's carrying a production sample then it's time to get your game face on.

That said I'd love to know what he thinks of the prototype. I believe my thinnest edge is 12dps, .020"bte, looking forward to see how this knife stacks up.
