Polestar/Alcyone in BD1N

#1

Post by janKov »

Hello, do you know when the PS and Alcyone pair will be available in the CTS-BD1N? I have a pair in BD1 and I would like to get another from new steel. At spyderco.com they are - sold out. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum!

I can recall several posts or even threads about this.
I think Sal said there, that the sales of both models are not as expected, and so a change from BD1 to BD1N is unlikely [Edit: This is wrong, see following posts] - which is sad!
- Theyboth look like great and also beautiful designs.

It is an official rolling change to BD1N and gray G10. Someone at the mothership might have info on a timeline though I would not count on it with the production delays affecting everything right now.

These are good looking models. And switching to BD1N is great. Probably start seeing them when other new products from the 2022 Catalog start to show up.

Thanks for (indirectly) correcting me, I was wrong in my previous post!
And didn't Sal mentiion at one point he was thinking about changing the design to a backlock? But I could easily be wrong again.

2 criminally overlooked designs. You put the RockJumper next to either of them and you can see the connection. I may have to get these upgraded versions just to support the model.

I sure do like my BD1N knives (they are kind of like salt knives for me), but Think I would like original scales better!

Same! I think there was some concern that the more unusual G10 was hurting sales, so they went a little more conservative with this iteration. It's a bummer though, I liked the funky G10.

I'm probably gonna get the new model. I might experiment with dyeing the dark gray scales and seeing how it turns out. A dark purple sounds pretty cool.

I need to have a closer look at the Alcyone - it could be a great first pocket knife for our daughter.

Thanks for the info.I saw them in the catalog, but the gray G10? Why? ‘Jeans’ G10 is great.Looks very cool.

Agreed. Not that the "new" uniformly grey scales would look bad by any means! But the original ones were/are actually really beautiful. No idea why those (or the knife as a whole) did not appeal to more people.

... and now that the Tenacious LW also comes in S35VN, the Polestar has a strong contender for those who want a "budget" line linerlock folder in a "better" steel than 8CR...

I like where you're going with this Gernot. If you put the RockJumper side by side the Polestar, handle is virtually identical. So with the upgraded steel, it would be like the LeafJumper but with a liner lock and perhaps S35VN. My wallet would open for that.

Those are pretty cool. I liked both of the BD1 models and in the new color with a quick scroll past they even looked like a favorite of mine the Maxamet Sage. I'd probably pick up both.

Hey, All:

I just confirmed that the revised version of the Polestar with CTS BD1N blade and peel-ply-textured gray G-10 scales is on the shelf and now shipping. It has officially replaced the previous version.

The revised version of the Alcyone is on order, but I don't have a firm timeline for its anticipated arrival.

Stay safe,

Mike
