Excited for the Stovepipe!

#1

Post by Blerv »

Hey all. I don’t post as much these days. Saw the David Rydbom collaboration today via Spyderco Byte and almost fell out of my chair.

Very excited for all parties involved! Hope all you forum folks are doing well!

Ah, the Bumble avatar. That, and of course many of your posts, are in my memory from my early days here. Good to hear from you, and hope you are well also.
On topic, the more I see and read about the Stovepipe, the more I like it. It is an amazing piece. It isn't cheap, though couldn't be, and isn't ideal compared to the lighter FRN EDCs for me, but wow, it is cool in so many ways, thus very tempting.

Hi Blerv!

The YT post certainly made the Stovepipe look very appealing.

Doesn't ring any bells here, but for those that like this type design, have fun.

For sure. To each their own.

This thing seared into my brain long ago before much else like it was on the market. Hinderer, Strider, CRK were the extent of the RiL options as I recall. All pretty normal blades. Spyderco I don’t think was doing much in that arena either beside the Sage2.

I just can't hardly believe that Stovepipe model looks so much like the Breeden RESCUE model from about 10 years ago. Like the Breeden RESCUE this is one design I would love to see in full SE. Never ever understood why they didn't make the Breeden RESCUE or his C-111 Captain model in full SE.

But this is going to be a most interesting design and one I would love to test drive.

Welcome back Blerv! Interesting design and I think it will be sold out soon, in case you will grab one, let us know and post fee pics please.

Glad to see old guard back, showing from time to time at least 😉

Well, we also had the amazing Spyderco Nirvana and the legendary Slysz Bowie for a while. Those were the days.

Hey Blerv, you are being too modest here! For folks that don't know, Blerv started this thread in 2009, the one that's referenced in the Spyderco Byte that turned one of David Rydbom's KA customs into Spyderco reality:

Even David Rydbom himself is an old forum member. Cheers, Radioactive

Wow. Over ten years in the making :astonished

Thank you, Blerv, for planting the seed that became the Stovepipe. Loved the maker's prototype photos and having a glimpse at the start of the collaboration process.

I have been pretty vocally skeptical about this knife but the more that I have read about David Rydbom, the craftsmanship, and the historical thoughtfulness that went into the design and build of this knife I caved in and ordered one yesterday from NK. I hope that I am not buying into a bunch of hype because I went from being skeptical to being intrigued by the knife.

Thanks all!

Its nice this company has the kind community where someone like Sal reads and considers our posts. I don’t know of another company in any industry where that happens.

Really I’m just a fan of both companies and posted a lot back then (way too much). Glad if it had any impact on them meeting but it’s a very small world. Like-minded knife makers eventually cross paths :) .
