One thing that bugs me about all the safe storage options is that you can't display them to be admired...

I am fortunate that I put my collectibles in display cases in the shop (with a sign saying "NOT FOR SALE"). Everybody can see and enjoy them and they are quite safe. :p

Good Thread, guys. I just had this problem solved for me, as my birthday present from my family was an awesome Cherrywood felt-lined Machinist's toolbox with a mirror and brushed aluminum knobs, with a nice I.D. plaque with my initials and "Spyderco" engraved on it. :eek: :cool: VERY awesome, with 3 full length drawers, and six half length drawers, plus the large top opening- thanks to my brother-in-law for the great gift idea! He knows me too well. No pics of it on hand yet, but I will try to snap a few for everyone to admire. In the meantime, here's an eBay auction for something similar:

I also have a Spyderco plexi display, for the Eye Candy to rest. (R, Burg. Horn, Blue Inlaid Vesuvius, Centofantes, Terzuola C15 and Starmate, and Zowada, and something else... I forget.)

Hey VWTATTOO,

I have the same chest in a lighter shade my wife got for me this past Christmas. The only problem is I can not take my whole collection around with me as easily as when they are store in my knife bags.
But, I will say that after reading this thread and seeing other pictures I may just change my habits.

I lucked into a new but scratched up Sears Craftsman ball bearing lower toolbox on wheels for $100. I think it has 8 drawers or so. The drawers are designed for heavy tools, so I can put 50+ knives in each drawer. I cut carpet to fit each drawer, so the knives stay put and unscratched and are easy to look at. The box locks, so it keeps the kids out and it keeps all the knives in a relatively small space. Home Depot was clearing out some of the big plastic Stanley toolboxes for less than $10 each, so I bought those for the knife boxes which I stand on end so the labels can be read.

LOL... yeah, they seem to enjoy it, and so do I! :D It's nice, bacuse I can put all of my knives in there, keep them organized in my own obsessive way, and make my selection for the day very easily. It's quickly become a favorite possession of mine. Thanks, 4 s ter!

You know I am really astounded that I have not been able to find a good waterproof, fireproof, and just overall quality built footlocker in which you could also lock up like a safe. It really blows me away to know that there would be a tremendous market for such an item. With the collectible market being what it is you would just think that even some major retailer like Sears, Bed-Bath&Beyond or some other specialty purveyor would market an item like this. It is amazing what you can't find :confused: . If anyone knows where I can get such an animal just let me know.

There are larger containers than just the .30 cal ammo cans. You should see the milspec 20mm ammo cans - huge by comparison, and similar construction. Size 17.25 L x 7.25W x 14 D inches. I have found them for under $10 in good used condition.

Hi,

I am considering something I saw or read somewhere : a coffee table with a glass top, with the :spyder: s displayed in a space beneath the glass. To be more secure, there could be a sheet of Lexan fixed just below the glass, to frustrate any burglars ! They would need big cojones to carry out the whole, heavy coffee table ! Any more thoughts on this one ?

I just keep my knives in my draw. In the box and thats about it. I dont have that many.
