I am interested.

I have full access to multiple labs. Corrosion testing is a possibility, as is advanced (confocal, SEM) microscopy. I should have x-ray diffraction soon for elemental analysis on the SEM. This could be used to identify composition of various carbides in microstructure, and how the edge is affected by carbide inclusions.

As I have been sharpening professionally for 46 years (over 100K+ knives and 10K+ scissors/shears) and 54 years in total, ‘Chasing the Ghost’ seems like the perfect continuation of the Mule project. I’m all in.

We know the "Edge is a Ghost" so these "Ghost hunters" would take on a project that we decide on the forum; "How much force does it take to......? What angle works best for....? What steels respond to a polished edge?, or a Vivi edge? etc. I think it would be fun to develop the "knowledge" we want to learn.

Sounds like an interesting endeavor. My own potential contributions might be limited, as I'm loath to change the angles from what I like, and my "testing" is less scientific and more real-life. But questions about coarseness and technique are always on my mind.

The subject says "scope." I'm all about that. My "good" magnifier is a cheap USB contraption that sits on my desk. But it can tell a lot about what's going on at the edge.

Same here! Lol! Great and cool idea for sure though! One of these days (when I am a retired empty nester) I will dedicate a large portion of my remaining days to chasing the ghost and hair whittling.

Sounds interesting! I'll try to participate where/when I can. Maybe it'll help me to blow the dust off my Hapstone sharpener. I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't reprofiled anything in a long time. Too many other things have my attention at the moment but I've wanted to change that

This could be interesting. I know many here have guided systems, I do not. I use the sharpmaker, benchstones, strops and a mouse pad backed with sandpaper. Depends on the knife. Maybe this will motivate me to get a system with more precise angle control.

I’m fairly slack and view sharpening knives like mowing lawns or washing vehicles.

I usually just grab another knife if the one I want to use is blunt but if nothing else I’ll certainly follow with interest.
