Why complain about him wasting our time? You don’t have to respond and you don’t have to click on his threads. There is an ignore feature for a reason. Use it. If you chose to read his threads, get triggered and then participate you probably share just as much blame.

If he was trolling us he is reading this and loving it. He got under everyone’s skin. When will people learn that the best approach is always to ignore and not to engage. If someone is doing something to elicit a response and you give it to them then they win.

Like some other members, I’m disappointed. This isn’t Facebook or Bladeforums, we’re better than this. Maybe I’m overthinking this and maybe this forum is my safe space but I have always found this little corner of the internet to be a little better. I don’t want to see toxic behavior seeping in.

We have managed better with more aggressive trolls in the past. Something is different. I realize that the past two years have been hard on many and maybe we aren’t all at our best right now but we can try to be better.

Sorry if I sound self righteous.

He repeatedly pissed in the pool of patience that is this forum; and he had to be escorted out.

The public self-flagellation and proselytizing on display by many regarding this issue, has become nauseating.

Damiand will be okay, and he will probably be back in some form. Let's move on.
So it goes.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Between the change in tone and the tension in the wake of several threads, it's all out of the ordinary for this forum.

Unlike what some other users have suggested, I don't believe anyone's true character has been revealed, as a result of some petty controversy on a knife forum. The world has been a bit chaotic and doesn't seem to be getting better, so it's actually surprising (to me) that there has not been more controversy here. If anything, that speaks to the character of everyone on this forum.

These threads should probably be closed.

A noob's take:

I've been a part of many, many internet forums, communities, servers, etc. over the 20+ years I've been on the internet. Far reaching corners of the web, obscure hobbies and interests, lots and lots of forum perusing...

What I've witnessed in the past few weeks here on the Spyderco forums, in regards to damiand, is nothing short of amazing. Never before have I seen a display of patience like that, from any community. Seriously. Please don't get down on yourselves for thinking you could have done more. Your footprints are un-tarnished.

Let’s also remember that Kristi has repeatedly said that she wants us to flag the posts we think are from trolls and to NOT continue to engage. If you’re concerned about people following the rules, well that one should be high on anyone’s rules to follow.

I prefer to ignore stuff like this but here it goes.

I also gave answers, some were helpful, some might have seemed harsh, but you know what... Sometimes the truth hurts.

Also this person was an adult, who can make their own decisions, seemed to have a habit of not listening to the advice given, and in my opinion asked some stupid questions. Also he asked some things that could have been found with searching and didnt need a thread.

Barring some disability or learning disorder or something, then I dont have much sympathy.

I like the tone of this forum much more than the rest of the internet. I think its a special place. But there is a difference between shiny footprints and tolerating repeated ignorance.
I agree. I think it would have stopped immediately if we just ignored him. People like that just want attention so that they can get on your nerves or just feel good about themselves.

I 100 percent agree with everything you just said. There's nothing that gets on a vexatious person's nerves more than lack of attention. If I'm playing a game of basketball and someone tries cussing me out, I just ignore them. If they want a fight- why would I give them what they want?

+1

I am also on the Internet since the early 90's, seen many flame wars, starting with Usenet. This was relatively mild.
