Name: Marlin Spike Dagger

Basic use: Self Defense. The knife would be capable of penetrating and cutting.

Folder

Size: 6 to 7 inch "blade"

Handle shape: long and tall enough to contain the blade

Lock type: Backlock

Blade shape: A 6 to 7 inch Marlin Spike / Knife, amalgam. The forward most 2 inches of the blade (at the tip) would be pure Marlin Spike. Then as the Marlin Spike gently curved, a blade would gradually grow under it to 1 inch tall full flat grind. The profile of the "blade" and handle would be that of the gentle curve in the Native Chief.

Grind: Marlin Spike to Full Flat grind

Blade material: Whatever Sal thinks is sufficient, but a decent steel, not 8CroMov....something like S35VN at least.

Handle material: G-10

Sheath: None

Does this knife have a use and purpose in the Spyderco line? Yes, pure self defense tool.

Is this knife a good design? Yes, excellent design.

Is this the thread for 2022 where I vote on everyone's behalf for a 4-5" PM2 tanto style fixed blade with a Texas flag coating that only I want?

Or should I wait a few weeks and derail the project with mediocre photoshops? Sorry, I can't remember how we did this last year or the year before....

This is a too much very crazy idea... and that's why we should try it

I propose initial rounds with only 2 options (fixed vs folder, salt vs regular, for example).
Later on the options could be more, like for colors or materials.
But every round is final and the option with most votes wins.

The Frenzy is a fantastic knife, as is the Counter Point XL. I'm less enthusiatic about the Ti Lite...I feel like the spine side quillon is trying to remove my thumbnail, and there's no real index or practical forward stop.

Good designs are the result of a singular vision, not an aimless committee. Like a smooth river stone, this design will be worn down into a nondescript oval shape by myriad dissenting opinions. What you'll end up with is a Civivi Elementum with a spydie hole.

While I agree that this would likely devolve, both in design and productivity, I still think it would be a fun undertaking. If it ends up looking like a potato with jimping, then Spyderco (or a final poll) could always give it the veto.

Why would anyone want to design something they don't get paid for?

Ha Ha ... this is fairly typical for many designers. Or, compensation about a few cents an hour given all the hours that goes into it.

I've read numerous past threads where people have made suggestions for a new forum knife and the suggestions are all over the place. Achieving consensus on any aspect of a knife design will be very difficult. I answered no to the poll because I think this process would be like herding cats.

I know I’ve already said my piece and I’ve said this next part before as well, but I’d be happier if we saw more designs that I know Sal and Eric have hidden away. I’m sure any one of them will be better than whatever 3 humped camel knife we all came up with.
