Can we get a serrated run of the Chaparral?
Can we get a serrated run of the Chaparral?
Would anyone else be interested in this?
I would really enjoy using FFG 2mm spine serrated in a small compact package like the chaparral!

Re: Can we get a serrated run of the Chaparral?
I might be interested but the steel would need to be MagnaCut and preferably DLC black
Re: Can we get a serrated run of the Chaparral?
I'd be interested and would be perfectly fine with the same CTS-XHP currently used.

I'm in. It's probably the biggest reason I haven't bought one yet.

That would slice and cut almost as well as the SE kitchen knives do.

If you can find a SE ARK you'll get a sneak peak, and it may even slice better than the Chaparral can/would since it has such a high hollow grind and is quite thin. The Z Cuts are thinner overall but besides those I've never seen a thinner SE blade. Having that slicing power in a folder sure would be nice.

Good luck, but I have no desire for one.
But, then, I’m left-handed and I have come to discover that handedness biases SE experience on non-brutal (that is, slow) cuts.
I love SE for ripping in the garden, but would not enjoy it on the perfect slow/precise slicer that is the Chaparral.

This is interesting because I've always felt that as a righty I'd prefer them ground on the back side of the blade because it would allow me to put the flat side down onto material during cuts, such as when carving a stick or whatever. If I ever come across a lefty SE knife for a reasonable price I think I'll try it out.

I think flat-side down on a slow cut is where my (hyper?)sense of snagginess has the time to get triggered.Evil D wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 12:10 pmwrdwrght wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 12:00 pmGood luck, but I have no desire for one.

I suspect the slowed (because snagged) tooth is not as quickly resolved on the flat side as on the bumpy side, where the next tooth (and the resolving scallop in front of it) is presented (bumped) with an accelerating speed to continue the work.
Because ripping cuts are no longer typical in my life, except in the garden, I want my slow rides to be smooth ones.
I do, however, have an SE Rescue in my out-and-about bag and an SE Pacific Salt in my go-bag for whatever need of ripping awaits.

Evil beat me to it…based on the SE ARK, an SE chap would be a very effective slicing tool.
Personally, I like the grip of frn for stuff like this.

I would love to see the Chap in SE. Just not sure how Xhp would perform in SE.

Do you have any idea what angle the serrations were ground at? My ARK is so thin that the 30 degree slots on the Sharpmaker put a micro bevel on the edge, so the serrations are ground somewhere lower than 15 degrees.
