Mantra M4 Ti flipper.

#1

Post by xinam »

Haven't popped into the forums for very long time. Just wanted to stop in and praise the now discontinued mantra flipper. Just and absolute homerun of a knife IMO.

👍The Mantra is still one of my all-time favorites. In fact your post just helped me decide which knife I'll carry tomorrow. Mantra it is!

Love the Mantra. Have two of them. Just got the Mantra 3 today and it’s also awesome.

IMHO Eric killed the line by trying to make it more mass market friendly. The 1 & 2 are near perfect, detents and bearings were a couple tweaks from perfection, plus the 2 was a bit obtuse.

I love them both.

I love the ergos on the Mantras and the ti scales feel good. Flipping action isn't the best.

The detent on mine was originally weak. The detent ball was a little flat. Flipping it over helped a lot. A few months ago I did the detent mod and added a ceramic detent ball. It made a huge difference

Honestly, I think the 1 was better without the flipper, and the 2 was great for being a low profile Spyderco (it lacks "tallness" like a BM 940) - great for the carry often, use infrequently tasks

What do you mean, with "the detent mod"? Just enlarging the detent hole in the lock bar or something additional? Do you remember the diameter of the detent ball?

Opening the detent hole in the blade so the detent ball rests a little deeper

The ceramic balls I have are 1/16" / 1.588mm

Thanks, have done that a few times the same way but with a ball end mill and/or the corner of the Sharpmaker rod. But I guess a diamond coated bit, like you used it, is the better way to do it. Just wanted to know if there is another way.
Thanks for the dimension.
