Are these hard anodized?
No, just a regular color anodization. (Type II)
Dang, not a fan of worn aluminum scales. I'm on the fence on this one.

I would’ve also preferred a non-anodized plain brushed aluminum with texturing.

bd1n is well below premium steels that have already fallen out of favor, like s30v.
Whut? What's wrong with S30V? What fallen out of favor? When did this happen?

Just a thought? Linerless so the threads are tapped into the aluminium right?
Aluminium is pretty soft so interesting to see how long it will take before the steel screws from the clip will strip out the threads on the handle.

Many knives have threads in aluminium handles, it works fine.

Sounds like that from the description they put up in the Spyderco app:

Both scales are first milled to shape and the obverse (near-side) scale is machined to accept the lock bar for the knife's streamlined Compression Lock® mechanism.
Thanks, I am in the party that doesn't seem to get app notifications/updates despite enabling them. Appreciated.

I haven't actually taken mine apart, but it looks like the compression lock bar is held on by the standoff.
Thanks Beau, that's what I imagined, but have never laid eyes on a copper PM2. Interesting how the standoff is used to pin the lock bar in place.
This is the best picture I could find.

not with me. i'm good with it, but how many knives are discontinued because people are waiting for them in a different steel? a lot of people talk about how they don't like or want s30v around here.

I'm pretty obsessed with collecting Military's, PM2's, PM3's....Spyderco has pushed out 10+ PM2's this year. I had to cry uncle on the PM3's last year and decided NOT to collect the PM3 Lightweights. I'm thinking this Aluminum version is not going to make the cut with me; its almost like these are the PM2 Lightweight. The only difference I can see with the Aluminum versions coming are a multitude of colors and Black Blades. I have all of the PM2's so far (except the Colorado Flag version) I just can't see spending almost $500 for the first 3 of these for what amounts to pretty colors. I haven't recovered from the first 4 SMKW Carbon Fiber releases!

Wow, thanks for digging that up. Interesting shape on that leaf near the stand-off. Not exactly like the Para 3 LW after all.

BD1N stainless steel is actually more corrosion resistant than S30V/S35VN/S45VN but not very good at edge retention.

Image
Never noticed until just now, but according to this chart, BD1N scores exactly the same as 440A.

Benchmade, Protech and others have been doing it for years. I don’t expect any issues.

It's wild how many people in this thread think Aluminum is a more durable material than polymer composites are, which is just not true for most measures of durability at all.

Can G10 PM2 blades be swapped into the copper scales / does it appear it will be possible to swap them into these scales?

And if so, do any other parts need to be swapped along with the blade? (e.g., pivot hardware?)

Last I checked they don’t have spoon clips that catch and bend on anything at hip level. I’ve caught clips a few times that had me scared I had pulled out threads…

I pulled blades out of 2 copper Rex45 PM2’s. The blades swap. I sold one set of copper frames and still need to sell the second…

Got an email from BHQ and they look pretty awesome: purple, green, blue. My PM2 collection has dwindled down to one this year, don't have any plans to ramp that back up. It will be interesting to see how well these sell.

Is this is a sign of things to come, a transition towards the Lightcheapweight plastic PM2.
Are S30V/45VN G10 PM2s becoming too expensive and now aluminium scales and BD1.
Or are they just running out of ideas for something to stand out as exclusive option in a world literally full of exclusive PM2s.

And what is the intended market for this, S30V PM2 is a high performing cutting tool, not sure about BD1N, maybe in the kitchen fighting with tomatoes.

Those colors...at least if it was some stonewash of blackwash...
But then maybe it wasn't that exclusive...

In the end 140$ for eye popping aluminium scales and cheaper steel looks kinda steep.
Might be an argument for spending just an extra 15 dollars and get a real PM2 S45VN G10.
Not as exclusive but some may survive with that.

Looking good!

Depends entirely on which grade of aluminum, what polymer composite, and what you mean by durable.
