Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
The Caribbean has been out for over 3 years now and I feel it has done well enough to warrant a Sprint.
I say Sprint(ish) because all I personally would like to see it a scale upgrade, maybe to Peel-Ply CF or Ti. Of course with the exact same milled pattern. I would be down with a Magnacut version but I would think that is a ways off.
Sal, Please Please Please make this happen!!!
What do y’all think?!

milled ti caribbean?! that could be pretty cool, but so expensive. it's already an expensive knife. i'd like to see an all black model added to production like the salt and pac salt have.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
On man, peel ply carbon fiber with or without the Caribbean ridges would be enough to get me to buy and almost any steel would be fun but of course I would really prefer serrations and I would very strongly prefer the sheepsfoot blade, though if the scales are cool enough and the price is right I could always do a blade swap and then do something else with the plain edge blade and factory scales.

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
MagnaCut or Vanax would be cool.
Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
A Caribbean sprint would be interesting, in that this model was planned and made as a more or less totally rustproof Salt Spydie from scratch:
So either they'd keep that almost a bit defining aspect and would have to go with H1 or as you say Vanax then (or another rustproof steel I might not know).
Or they'd "just" change the handle material
Or, and this would be my favorite choice: They'd go another route 100% and made a tool steel Micarta Caribbean...

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
I had one and returned it because of a super weak detent. Haven’t seen new ones at dealers this year. I hope the detent is addressed and the pivot is changed as was the Kapara’s.
At this point it’d be nice if they just made the standard version available again.

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
Caribbean is a fantastic knife many don't even consider as they may not be attracted to the handle color design. I think that a more traditional handle (I think Micarta would be a great choice here) would get more attention. Adding another steel option would not be a mistake, though LC200N is a fine choice. I think it makes for a great outdoor knife.

I am all for Micarta, but I think it should go with another steel (for me even tool steel as said).Matus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 12:06 amCaribbean is a fantastic knife many don't even consider as they may not be attracted to the handle color design. I know, "rustproof salt knife" is not at all only good for (salt) water use, but is still the best choice for that specific application.
Now, though I use my Micarta Endura in rain and wet conditions all the time, I still think Micarta is not the best choice there.
Some say "Micarta gets grippier when wet" - I never experienced that, rather the opposite. And it can soak up water for sure.
Not saying Micarta would be a "bad" choice for a (salt) water knife, but just not ideal.
Just my 2c...

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
They did do the Autonomy 2 sprint in S30V and carbon fiber which moved it away from being a full Salt model. It may even push the Caribbean into higher sales by getting more attention from people who just don't feel they need a full rust proof salt oriented knife so they ignore knives like this. If it gets S90V/CF it'll be a hit, that combo is about as guaranteed as CruCarta.

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
Caribbean is one of my favorite knives, the only thing that I don’t like about it is yellow color, but Rit dye helped me with this problem.
I’ll buy CF/S90v Caribbean for sure, but I think it’s already almost perfect!

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
i kind of doubt spyderco would make a non salt caribbean. most salt knives are salt versions of knives that already exist, but the caribbean was built from the beginning to be a salt knife. of course that doesn't mean they can't make one. i just don't think they would. once you take the lc200n away and change the scales, you might as well be talking about a completely different knife design.

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
I would love to see Spyderco do their NASA style treatment (“because we can”) to the Caribbean like they did to the Proficient. Sub out S90V for Vanax and call it a day.
Ideally though, since we are talking serrations as well I would love a steel that isn’t a bear to sharpen. That is why I gravitate back to LC200N. I do also think because there are 4 different blade styles involved a simple scale change might be the best approach.

I completely agree here. I love my Caribbean SE, but I would love it more with CF scales and a stronger detent.Dazen wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 5:18 amI would love to see Spyderco do their NASA style treatment (“because we can”) to the Caribbean like they did to the Proficient. peel ply cf and LC200N would be enough too convince me.
It would ofc also be the perfect combo to introduce the mini caribbean in

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
I’m all for more Caribbean options, though, personally am more interested in an option that would lower the price. That doesn’t seem to be the goal of this thread though
However, I would assume peel-ply carbon fiber/g10 handles to look rather good on the Caribbean because the handle has a lot of flat surface area and I think the material shines best like that. I don’t see it changing the price too much either.
I think the only way my wish for a less expensive version to be granted is through a blade change to hollow ground SE H1(?), or a lightweight. Not to get deeply into it, but I’d say a lightweight Caribbean should still have liners like the Sage 5 lightweight.
Not especially interested in Vanax, but maybe MagnaCut. The latter would keep things mostly good to go for stainless/toughness needs, but I’m not exactly against those who are into tool steels on this model. Lots of things are really tempting to suggest for the Caribbean because it’s got a rare combination of features that I like (no choil compression lock with a lot of edge and good handle).

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
It has been suggested before but Rasta colors would be pretty perfect for me. I would like to keep the steel. The main reason that I don’t already have one is the bumblebee color scheme.

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
I’m happy with the steel, the blade geometry, the lock, and the handle shape of my Caribbean leaf. I think I’d prefer a lighter weight version with FRN handle scales. The bidirectional texture of the many lightweight models affords a superior grip and the more rounded edges offer better comfort.
Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
FRN with more contouring is a good idea, but Taiwan FRN Spydercos don't seem to have all that much contouring (Sage 5, Chaparral) ...

Re: Caribbean Sprint(ish)?!
I almost bought one three years ago , the scales just did not appeal to me , but I really liked the concept. As time has passed I have begun to appreciate the scales and their purpose . The steel fits the design for me , if there was a change in scales I would hope they would fall in line with the original intent of the design . The Sheep foot blade in SE would really work for me for all around outdoor work . MG2
