Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
I just received my Sun and Moon Chaparral and it has arc shaped scratches on the ricasso around the writing, as though it is scraping or dragging when opening and closing and consequently scratching it. Is this a normal feature for this particular knife or is mine somehow out of spec? Thanks as always!
Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
Mine doesn't have scratches and I've had it since it was released.

Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
Sounds like rubbing on the liners, I'd probably try to exchange it if it was me. Haven't seen this on any of my Chaps.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
I have two Chaparrals (CF version with full liners & LW version with nested liners):
Both of them had after several hours of fidgeting on the couch (no real cutting use) already scratches on the ricasso.
The Chaparral has very tight tolerances. I always thought it is inevitable if one is not very careful during opening.
Have the same issue with many Seki LW FRN models.
Not a deal breaker for user knives.
But over a specific price point (like the Sun & Moon Chap) not ok.

I don't have that one, but my other Chaparrals have scratches at the ricasso.
Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
My CF Chaparral has scuff marks on the ricasso where it meets the edge of the blade. It happens because my thumb is pressing the blade sideways when I open it, and it's scuffing the liner. It doesn't really worry me.
Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
my sun & moon didn’t come with any marks on it.
over time (got this one on initial drop) it has developed a crescent shaped wear line above the pivot area but below the scale line on the sun side, it’s only visible when your moving the blade - can’t see it open or closed.

Thanks for the replies folks. I talked to someone at Spyderco and they said it shouldn’t be leaving lines so I will get the issue resolved.

Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
Mine has multiple on each side clearly visible upon the very first opening of the knife and they are spread throughout the riccaso and show when the blade is open. I wouldn’t worry on a working knife but these are showpiece gentlemen’s knives and I paid extra over the FRN model purely for the aesthetical reasons. Given that it’s brand new I’ll have the problem rectified.rashman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 2:29 pmmy sun & moon didn’t come with any marks on it.

No marks on any of the Chaps I have...sounds like an alignment issue
Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
Mine looks pristine also and carried every Sunday.
Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
The rotation of the opening-closing is starting to leaves some marks at the same spots on my Chap LW.

Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
Mine had a little bit of scraping sound/feeling on open/close but I adjusted the pivot and it went away. These knives with two pivot screws need the tension to be balanced between them properly for good centering and action.

Re: Question for owners of Sun and Moon Chaparral
Since there is liners there, it's most certainly coming from the CTS-XHP rubbing on it.

Just got my replacement and no scratches. The Chaparral is such an excellent knife!
