I haven't owned a Chief since the beginning when I picked one up soon after release. To be honest I don't fully recall why I didn't love it. I remember comparing it to my less expensive Cold Steels with un-lined G-10 and more robust Tri-Ad lock...
But time has passed and this variant is more interesting. Maybe I'll like it. Figure it's worth another try.

BHQ has been charging sales taxes for a while now. No matter where I have my knives shipped, Cali, NY or NJ. Cali has the most expensive ST so far at more than 10%, so I usually have them shipped to NY or NJ where I have relatives who can mail it here to me.

Is anyone making micarta scales for these yet?

Really tempting, but I'd want to throw some micarta on there asap.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

If you find anyone let me know!

That being said I really like how the stock scales look after some dark green rit:

That's the scale color I want to see from Spyderco, so the jade G10 lets me get that at least. Micarta with a rough texture, contoured edges and a color in that ballpark would be the ultimate!

I reached out to all the major aftermarket folks and got a resounding chorus of "No"s.

It seems the knife is too new or not popular enough to warrant them - what a shame.

It's so hard to restrain myself from buying this Native Chief, and from buying my first M4 knife !

Good thing it went fast :')

Or it might be because of the linerless construction?

As far as I know, the same reason is why the Native 5 G10 linerless has no aftermarket scales, the tolerances must be tighter for linerless G10 IMHO.

As for the aftermarket scales question - I would agree on this - the G10 has more stiffness than some of my micarta scales I believe. With the linerless design of the Native Chief seems like the stiff G10 scales material may be needed.

Ah, really good point. I wasn't aware the NC was linerless!

I'm a sucker for M4, my favorite non-stainless! That and A2 are my top two. S7 is nice too but less of a general purpose steel.

Such a light knife for the size, I already consider it an LW model, even without frn! I was shocked when I got my first one.

Both of mine just arrived. Excellent fit and finish as per usual, and no lock rock at all (which has never been a problem for me either - I have many Spydie backlocks without lock rock).
