Apologies if this isn't the best place to ask, but does anyone have comparison photos of the Wharncliffe with the original (or the Salt sheepfoot) version, preferably with blade both open and closed?
Why does Spyderco feel the need to make that huge hump on every wharncliffe?

I was thinking the same thing the other day and was even playing around in Paint3D trying to see what it would look like sans hump. I am not sure why they needed to do it?

I've got to get one of those. It looks like you could cut down a small tree with it. I think it would make a great all-the-time pocket knife.

What shaped blade would you like to see in a Wharnie?

I don't mind the arc, just less of it, I think. That is my personal taste. I just wondered at the design reasons behind it. I am certain there is one. This is not a criticism. It is simply trying to understand.
To me, less arc means the blade is able to get into more places. However, more arc means a wider blade which might help in slicing. I don't know. (I think in terms of an old bird and squirrel hunter).
I think the standard Manbug blade shape is one of the most aesthetically pleasing.

I agree on a smaller arc for the ManBug Wharncliffe since for me it goes on the keychain and a smaller arc occupies less pocket space. Something like the Wharnie on Bradley Air. Replace VG-10 with LC200N and SpyderEdge and you have the ultimate version.

Trying to keep the tip a bit stronger and keep the arc smooth. When tips get too thin, we get them back with broken tips. Making the blade wider also gives a thinner grind. (longer wedge). It also gives one the ability to grasp the blade. Easier to take down the arc than make it larger.
i seriously can't believe we're getting a coated manbug before a coated dragonfly.
Sal, since you are in this thread, are there any talks of adding a coated Dfly to the lineup yet? VG-10, H1, LC200N or K390? This is one that I and many others have been hoping/asking for for years, so I certainly echo ladybug's shock at the coated Manbug coming out before the super popular Dragonfly.
Blacked out FFG PE Endelas, Delicas, and Enduras are also a confusing omission from the lineup. Maybe add a line of blacked out FFG PE models to the Seki lineup in an upgraded steel like Cruwear??

As one who is just getting into wharncliffes, my thoughts on this shouldn't carry much weight.
And there really isn't much to add beyond what Sal already mentioned, but another property that makes the humped wharnies an attractive design choice to me, is that I imagine the hump would give me a leverage point when the tip is wedged under e.g. a tie wrap.
That's just what I imagine though.. still waiting for my first Spyderco wharnie, the DF2 in K390, to be released.
