Alright guys, so it was shipped 1914-1915, definitely making it a pre war gun. It has the original grips too, they have the same **** serial number stamped onto the back of them. Pretty cool stuff. This will go down my family as long as I can. Probably should stop shooting it now, I didn’t think it was ever that old. Lol.
I'd keep shooting it. Low power target loads should not bother it all.

Btw Josh, how does she shoot?
Is the action still really good and the single action nice?
Mac, it is probably the nicest gun I’ve ever shot. The SA is freaking sweeeet.

Yeah you’re right, I’ll just maybe be a little more gentle with her.

Oh man, I'll bet so.
I concur with JR. And, am glad you do too. Enjoy that baby with your family.

Very cool Josh.
What model is it?
It looks a lot like a Model of 1905, 4th change I used to have. S&W estimated mine to have shipped around 1919.

A previous owner penciled “F.L. Jobes Xmas 1924” inside the right grip.

Mine had a pitted bore and cylinder, had been re-blued and the trigger and hammer had been engine turned.

Good 411. Thanks.
Gotta say, as far as revolvers go, me and my family have always been Smith & Wesson people.

I tried looking up photo's I'd taken of the one I used to own to see what the serial number was. No luck.

I saw your post on the S&W forum the other day. One guy who's helped me out with dating an M&P revolver goes by JP@AK, (Jack). As I recall he has a lot of data on when serial numbers were shipped. Don't know if you knew this, I didn't, but S&W serial numbered guns weren't shipped in sequence. So, it's possible that a revolver with a higher serial number shipped before one with a lower number.

I agree with you completely Tom.

I feel like the USA is increasingly divided, and our only hope for a peaceful road forward is federalism--letting each state chart it's own path, and letting people (and companies) vote with their feet.

Good for Massachusetts for choosing the rules they want in their state, and good for S&W for moving to somewhere that is more in keeping with their values. Seems like a double win to me.

Having grown up in Tennessee, I’ll definitely be picking something up from them “made in TN.” As it stands I actually don’t own any S&W. An M&P 340 will be right up my alley when they start coming out of Maryville.
