S&W Moves to TN

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

I know this is old news, but Smith and Wesson is finally getting out of MA. I hate those people are losing their jobs, but this is a good thing for S&W, Tennessee, and for all of us. Long over due in my opinion.

Smith and Wesson will now be able to continue to produce the rifles, pistols, and revolvers that we have loved all of our lives and if they stayed they would not be allowed to do that.

I hope they will start producing the 3" bull barrel model 65, again. it was the FBI handgun until they changed over to semi-auto pistols. It was a good gun then, it would be a good gun, now.

I feel like the USA is increasingly divided, and our only hope for a peaceful road forward is federalism--letting each state chart it's own path, and letting people (and companies) vote with their feet.

Good for Massachusetts for choosing the rules they want in their state, and good for S&W for moving to somewhere that is more in keeping with their values. Seems like a double win to me.

In this day & time it makes no business sense for a firearm company to stay in a state that is anti-firearm. Kimber moved a few years back out of NY to Alabama, and Magpul left Colorado. A lot o Marlin & Remington's financial woes came about from remaining in unfriendly states.

I could only dream that S&W gets rid of that ugly safety hole not that they are in a more Pro 2A state.

No fricking idea Mac, I’m trying to get some help with it. It’s a 5 screw, with no “Made in USA” stamp on right side behind cylinder, so it’s pre 1920. It’s a 38 special hand ejector.

I am guessing they decided they needed to leave before Mass either taxed, litigated or regulated them out of existence.

So far with the help of some new friends on the S&W forum, they have narrowed it down to a 1909-1919 M&P. I’m getting them some more information on it to try to narrow it down some more.

Seriously, I would LOVE to find a model 27-2 with a 3.5" barrel for a reasonable price. I reckon everyone would but, it's a bit of a grail for me. Would really match my 27-2 6"

Alright guys, so it was shipped 1914-1915, definitely making it a pre war gun. It has the original grips too, they have the same **** serial number stamped onto the back of them. Pretty cool stuff. This will go down my family as long as I can. Probably should stop shooting it now, I didn’t think it was ever that old. Lol.

So what I’m told, it is a 1914 gun, known as the Model 1905. It is (obviously) a Military and Police 38 special. It is all original, it was carried in WW1. And I’m assuming perhaps WW2. It was also carried in the Korean War, so that gives me proof that it was in fact my grandpas Military issued pistol from the Korean War. Wow, I love finding out the history of stuff. I wish this pistol could talk.

That is so cool Josh.
Man, just keep her and pass her on down the line like your talkin about man.
Makes me think of Black Army Colt 1911
She was made in late 1918.
Jim aka OldHoosier62 is really fixing her up for me.
It was originally my deceased Uncle's 1911 that my dad gave to me. But, before that my 1st cousin whom is 10 years older than me, had it before my dad or me, thru my Aunt. Long story short, he just messed it up good, and Jim is getting her back in operation.
Can't wait to get her back .
