Surprised this is still available. Maybe it cost more than the Smkw pm2 artic storm or everyone got their pm2 quota for the month. I don't recall this being hyped up as much. I barely remembered the release date and time.

That's gotta be aggravating for dealers... you plan your PM2 drop for a Friday only to find out another dealer is dropping their PM2 on Tuesday. :spiral-eyes

Lol.....BladeHQ normally drop their Spyderco exclusive on a Friday. Perhaps, it's a combination of everyone spending their monthly knives allowance on SMKW's exclusive and maybe everyone else gotten their PM2 fix from that drop already, to BladeHQ ordering a larger quantity of these copper PM2; maybe that is why they're still in stock as of 10pm EST.

I think many people realize that the SMKW PM2 has the more value for your money's worth given the expense of Fat Carbon scales, plus the BHQ copper PM2 is more expensive by almost 15%.

It looks really nice but given the weight of it I am surprised that anybody would actually carry one.

A good candidate for a scale/hardware swap. Hard part would be finding someone that wants these scales though. I bet the first DLC/Rex45 PM2, if released in just about any G10 color out there, would have sold out in seconds.

I bought an extra set of these scales from a fellow forum member. ;) I'm a sucker for copper and wanted a second one to carry but didn't want to spend the full amount for another knife.

Edit: I should add that it was from the first run in satin that I bought an extra set from.

The price difference between the ParaMilitary2 Sprint REX45 Satin Blade with Burnt Orange G-10 scales ($146.22) and the BladeHQ Exclusive REX45 Satin Blade with Solid Copper scales ($215.00) was a whopping $68.78!

I bet pricing will continue to increase due to the current economic times. Curious to see if the imported models become increasingly more expensive due to inflated shipping container costs and not only to the decreased purchasing power of the US dollar.

Not interested in dlc on Rex45, if this was the satin version I would be buying 2. I think the massive flood of copper/brass scales to market make it less special. Really easy to just make your own version.

Also they needed to coat the liners, that was one of the selling points for the smky Pm2. My last bladehq lil native is awesome but the uncoated liners stand out to much in person.

I just want to jump in here and say that my copper PM2 has the best action of all my PM2's. It opens and closes 100% the same 100% of the time and buttery smooth. That solid metal linerless construction is wonderful. It might be hard for me to explain but it's nice! With that said, I'm not sure if the DLC on this version will affect that. But if you don't mind heavy knives... this might be the PM2 for you.

That variant was released 3 years ago. It's unfair to compare the two when there have been price increases, changes to MAP pricing, COVID, etc...

The price increase from the BHQ Satin REX45 Copper from last June to BHQ REX45 Copper from this month was a nominal $9.00 which barely covers the cost for all the DLC coating (so in effect no price increase in over a year). The Solid Copper scales, including redesign for linerless and extra manufacturing time not to patina the scales, all added to the cost.

One can come up with many reasons these days for price increases to the consumer - justified or not: MSRP & MAP increases, inflation, rising wages & salaries, fuel price increases, shipping container costs, tariffs, “Covid” surcharges, rent increases, etc. I like the way some companies selling to grocery stores basically don’t increase the price but put less product in the packaging (they label the weight change correctly but the font is not the biggest).

I'm an engineer and manage global capital projects for the worlds largest packaging company, so I am very close to raw material pricing and market volatility.

I've seen 100% - 400% cost increases on copper buss, wire, conduit, steel, aluminum, etc, etc, etc. Then the shipping and logistics cost increases on top of the material increases result in the current market.

The $9.00 cost increase from the June BHQ Rex 45 Copper to the present run is peanuts and if you look at the addition of DLC, the re-design the liner-less copper scales (engineering / design labor isn't cheap), I think it would be a relatively safe assumption to say the buyers came out ahead of Spyderco and the BHQ.

I'd be ecstatic if I experienced such minimal price percentage increases on everything else in life - my work projects, milk, groceries, meat, ammo, whey protein, etc, etc, etc.

And you have to figure in that, like so many other metals, China has a huge demand for copper, so if you want some on your knife, you have to compete with the Chinese for it (kidding, sort of):

"...The exception was in China, which had stockpiled the metal. As if history were about to repeat itself, China has this year [2020] been the major buyer of copper thanks to the relatively strong domestic economy, and this has led to copper inventories in the London Metal Exchange warehouses hitting their lowest levels since 2006..."

Mine landed today. One of the most unique knives I’ve owned. The copper has a great feel and heft…I love it. The blade is scalpel sharp.

Blade HQ and Spyderco nailed this knife. Contemplating picking up a second.

I love Rex 45, and the PM2 is an awesome platform, pulled the trigger on this. A little hard to imagine the weight until it’s in the hand. Quite the shiny look tank.
