Native Chief rarely leaves my pocket these days.BA1AA6C7-8FEF-4C1F-BF49-1E2BD2A214E1.jpeg
Nice pic with great (reduced) color combination!

And: IF one likes to use folders for food prep from time to time (I do): The Chief must be great for that (for a folder!): Rather thin blade, long cutting edge, pivot far away from stuff that gets cut due to the even longer blade...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

This old Native together with my Manix... ;)

Actually carry the Manix today, but just picked up that Native from the post office.
Got it used for a good price, and though I most likely won't keep it forever I just wanted to try it out, especially the grind. It looks cool too I think, and is an odd combo: Clearly the S30V Native FRN, but has the wire clip only the VG10 Native featured as far as I know.

Anyway, I am planning to make this hollow grind really thin and aggressive and turn the knife into a nice little "wood biter". It is already pretty good at that. Compared it to my quite sharp Manix and the Native did not bad, despite it came and still is not even paper cutting sharp...

That's very much my reasoning / justification for giving it a try. It's a large folder by my standards, but still reasonably light and pocketable, and much to my surprise - fits my hand quite decently as well. I have a feeling it could be a pretty good all-round knife that in many situations will omit the need to bring an additional larger knife.
Haven't put it to work yet, but sure look forward to bring it on some hikes and hunting trips this autumn.

Nice! My very first Spyderco was a used Native in 440V. It is still one of the smoothest backlocks I have ever used. I think only the Spyopera is smoother.

Thanks! The Chief is great for food prep for all of the reasons you mentioned. 👍

I’m really enjoying the knife. Lately I’ve been carrying it with my serrated Pac Salt 2 and I think it’s a great combination. With both of them available to me, I haven’t run across any EDC cutting task that made me wish I had a different knife.

Nice setup! I've been using a Zodias spinning rod for a few months now and absolutely love it!

Nice man! Always good to run into another Shimano user. So far, it’s eerily reminiscent of my heavy conquest in terms of balance and overall usability which is exactly what I was looking for. Those mono handles are really cool, too. Can’t say I’ve ever used anything quite like that
