Another shot at Rex 45

#1

Post by aaronkb »

Wanted to start a new topic since the previous one was re-titled in a way that would undermine this very important message:

For anyone who missed out on Cutleryshoppe, I just saw that @thomasomoore on Instagram is selling several Rex 45 models for mostly reasonable prices.

Is this considered b/s/t? Pretty much advertising for a private sale.

Not sure if it is, I have no relationship with the guy - lots of knife people follow him including myself. He doesn’t have a clue this thread exists, unless he’s actively monitoring the forum. And at 17.7k followers, he’s going to have no trouble moving those knives.

There was a recent thread in which someone alerted the community about a bunch of rex 45 that suddenly came into stock on cutleryshoppe, I was able to pick up a couple knives I badly wanted (arriving tomorrow) but a lot of people commented that they missed out. I’m just trying to do those folks a favor.

Frankly I think he’s asking a lot for the para 3, but good prices otherwise.

Here’s the original thread I’m referencing, if you’re curious for context. I just commented there too but I think people have already given up on that thread as a source of rex 45 and might not be checking.

I'm aware of that thread but it was for an established retailer, this is a private seller.

For as long as I've been on the forums, private sales have never been allowed to be advertised.

Don’t know about you, my definition of advertising would involve me being involved with the sale. Not sure what harm this does and I’m trying to pay it forward because I know a bunch of people missed out on the other one when I myself benefited, but I apologize for any personal offense I’ve caused you. Certainly didn’t intend to ruin your day ;) and if a moderator decides I’m breaking a rule and deletes my post, so be it.

Don't worry about me, I'm not offended. Though I appreciate your positivity and concern. ;)

I didnt report the thread or tell you to edit it, I don't care. I was just curious because if this isn't considered B/S/T, maybe I will start doing it too. :D

I'm pretty sure Thomas Moore is also a member of this forum

What's so special about REX45? Everywhere I look, knives made out of it have a little extra premium on price.

I’m sure part of it is scarcity, but in my experience it’s the most abusable steel I’ve encountered by far. Very good edge retention (not insane), but insane edge stability/“toughness.”

Most if not all of the REX45 releases have been Sprint Runs or Dealer Exclusives, so the scarcity definitely drives up the pricing in the secondary market.
