I love mine, it's my favorite Military. Like most knives these days, I just wish it had a SE variant. I bought two, one for use and one for the future.
Full serrated 52100 would be a beast on the military. Too bad full serrated isn’t an option for the millie. I’ve entertained the idea of getting the pm2 full se. Using my pm2 pe in s30v doesn’t lead me to believe the serrated version would hold up to my use. H1 and vg10 serrated seem to withstand zip ties pretty well, I would be afraid the s30v would chip or break the peaks of the serrations off. That being said if full se was offered in the military I would probably pick one up.
Chipping really depends on how you sharpen. Yeah if you try to scrape gaskets off engine parts you might have issues but the way I reprofile and sharpen my SE has all but eliminated chipping except for what you'd expect to see with any steel or edge type.
I'd be up for something similar. After thinning out my Manix in 52100 from around 19dps to 15dps, it's really performed a lot better. It even seems the edge retention improved as well, though I did leave it with a 320 grit finish

Again, if you're really abusive to your knives maybe it'll still be an issue but I have no hesitation at all to use my SE knives hard.
I have seen that thread. I don’t get that gnarly with my knives, if the situation calls for it the blades on my leatherman come in handy for those tasks. The torture test sharpening inspired me to try a diamond reprofile of my gen 3 se endura. I’m looking forward to seeing the results of a coarse edge. Medium to fine rods has been my go to for years.
I’m also sharpening the back side bevel like a scandi to try and bring the edge back to more of a true chisel grind. I ended up with a pretty heavy bevel on the back side from poor sharpening techniques. I saw the error of my ways a few years ago and am trying to take out as much of the back side bevel as I can. It may thin the edge quite a bit. I’ve had the knife for 20+ years so I’m ready to do some experimenting with a thinner edge.
All this talk of the 52100 Military Model has prompted me to get a second one.
Are they still available somewhere?
I was wondering that myself. I love my Cold Steel 52100 fixed blade and have been wanting a Military. I could see myself liking this model a lot! As much as I love super steels, there is something immensely satisfying about a blade that is easy to sharpen and takes a keen edge.
One of my favorite Militaries. The steel is super easy to sharpen, as others have noted. Mine took a really nice, even patina. And I do appreciate the noticeably lighter and faster CF scales.
I love it, and so glad I grabbed it (basically on a whim).
Country knives has them also. If you are willing to pay their price. I’m not sure the 52100 military is worth that much. It’s was a spendy knife without after market pricing. It still blows my bhq m4 millie out of the water on fit, finish and smoothness.

That's about what I've seen them go for on eBay, at least with them you hopefully have the peace of mind in knowing you're buying a new knife and not one that someone has used and carried and is passing it off as BNIB. Honestly I wouldn't let mine go for any less.
Well, I've neglected mine for a long time, but all this 52100 love is making me want to it out. My Cruwear & factory 2nd Ti model have been my go-to Millies for quite awhile.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod Note to self: Less is more.

Same here. It's one of those "all good, just different" steel situations where there are certainly "better" steels you could choose, but there are qualities about 52100 and just this overall package that just do it for me. I'd even go as far as to say the same steel in a different handle may not appeal to me as much, unless maybe they did the same combo but with fluted carbon fiber scales.
Maybe instead we could get it in high hardness AEB-L. AEB-L when given the good heat treat is everything 52100 is, except slightly tougher and stainless.
