Ran / walked some mountain trails today with a 20lb pack on. 50 minutes up, 38 down on a trail that takes just over 3 hours at a brisk walk.

I took some seldom used paths that go well past the trail end at the summit where the Pacific Salt came in handy for trimming back briars.

Started out as a beautiful 94F summer afternoon.

Forecast was supposed to be clear but a thunderstorm started building up 5 minutes after passing the summit.
The Suunto's storm alert worked well, as did all the other features. I didn't realize until today you could run the stop watch and elevation guage at the same time.
Last post like this here, I promise :D I made a thread for gear talk in off-topic we can use.
Those are some awesome edges! SAK steel behaves a lot like H1 in many ways. Very corrosion resistant, very easy to sharpen and stable at thin angles.u.w. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:32 amKind of a "shout out" to vivi. Some properly profiled & sharpened PE H1.
I've been carrying one of my H1's (Gen 1 Pac Salt) for a week-ish now, and will continue to for ???
As you can see, it's been reprofiled, and about half of the hollow has been ground away, by me - by hand - stone in hand / knife in hand. I've also re-shaped the blade, giving it the point it deserves, and added a few more jimps.
The SAK is a well (very well) worn, used & sharpened Recruit. Shield & cross long worn away, blade thinned numerous times, point dropped numerous times (because it would get proud of the handle as the edge got used up. I carry it every day at work, and use it often.
The PacSalt is 0.0085" BTE, and it's sharpened at/to a 200 grit edge, 13 - 14 degree tiny edge bevel. Works VERY well.
The SAK Recruit is ??? BTE, sharpened at/to a 300 grit edge, 70-ish or so degree edge bevel (I use it for, among other things, cutting sealant off metal panels), and will currently cleanly shave. It's works & stands up Surprisingly Well.
u.w.
I bet that Pacific Salt is a slicing beast with that geometry! I haven't measured my scandi style regrind but from using it I can confirm they're the real deal.
