How to take apart the Atlantic Salt LC200N???

#1

Post by bruce91748 »

Looks like the construction of the Atlantic Salt 2 is slightly different than the Pacific Salt 2 and the Salt 2. Aside from the clip being held to the scales by a pair of barrel couplers, the FRN scales seem to have been fused together at the end and I'm not able to pry them apart. How do you guys get the scales apart? BTW at first I didn't like the shape of the blade in pictures or videos but now after holding it for a few hours, it's growing on me.

They dont come apart.

Take out the pivot pin and the lockbar pin.
When you unscrew those pins the blade and lockbar will slide out. The spring can be pulled out of its housing.
Thats it.

Theres the blade, lockbar, spring, pins, and one piece handle.

I agree the blade kind of grows on you. But, I am still thinking of getting one and modding the blade to a pointed wharcliffe.

I've been marking the blade w/ markers to decide what shape to go with and may try Zenith's or the Yojimbo shape.

Very cool, also the heavy use this thing obviously has seen! :)

One question though: This of course must be the H1 version, right? But I can´t see any hollow grind (perhaps it is just my cell phone screen) - did you make the whole blade thinner too (in its upper part at least)?
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

It has been reground a few times and it has seen years of use. I have also had to regrind the scallops as it was becoming more like a plain edge and had no more sharp teeth.

I measured the base where the edge was and more than a millimeter of actual teeth have been sharpened away.

It has a very slight taper towards the tip.

Decided to reprofile the blade and really like the outcome.
Now the Atlantic is a couple tenths of an ounce lighter, smaller in the pocket and prettier.
