Chief Lightweight spotted in the Knifecenter New Spyderco Knives video.

We now have a LW Police and Chief. That means lower cost options for 'all the steels' US and Japan in a large folder format.

That's cool news. I'm happy with the current weight, but this should have a lower price and better contouring along the edges.

This also means we're more likely to see SE and DLC variations if they're investing in FRN molds for the Chief.

Nice seeing big knives like the Chief and Police doing so well these days.

Wonder if they’re gauging feedback from the show before committing to a production release. The G10 model doesn’t seem overly hefty to me but I’m always pleasantly surprised when models get lighter.

EDIT: after viewing the KC Blade Show video this is clearly going to be production. Can’t wait for this in K390 or LC200N

I was thinking as I've been carrying my Rex45 Chief these past few days, this is a pretty darn lightweight model for being so big!

Not sure it really needed a lightweight version, though I know a lot of people do prefer frn.

That came outta nowhere, I will probably get the base model just because, but IMO the standard Chief offers an incredible amount of knife for how little it weighs. When the Chief first came out a ton of ppl were up in arms that such a large knife having such a large blade didn't have liners was dangerous and just blasphemous to even try -- I think it's safe to say such fears have proven unwarranted...

A linerless LW Chief!
Though it feels nice in hand, I hate paying the price for G10, especially when FRN is generally a more logical choice. Cool to see this in the lineup :)

I thought any new G10 Spydie that does well in sales generally and eventually will become available in FRN (with or without liners) as a cost-savings. FRN happens to add lightness, but is lightness FRN’s intent?.

In the video he says that the M4 blade was just a blade they conveniently had around, and that the production blades are going to be S30V. Interesting that they are going with S30V since it looked like S45VN would be replacing it in the lineup, but I could live with either. I do wonder how much cheaper it will be than the G10, if the difference isn't that much I think I'd rather have G10.

Too bad the PE big Enuff is in H1 instead of LC200N.

Funny thing is:
It must have been an extremely quick decision to do this FRN prototype: Started a thread pretty recently, called literally "Sal, may I ask: Any chance of an FRN Chief?" ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=89313#p1510458), and Sals reply on only May the 3rd (so just ONE month ago!) was (quote): "We're watching the comments. FRN depends on demand. It's nice because of the lower manufacturing costs but FRN tooling is expensive and we have to "guess" whether of not it will be popular enough to finance the tooling costs? It also permits colors at the lower cost."

I took apart two native chiefs. That steel backspacer is integral to the lock mechanism, but regardless the weight savings will be negligible. These native chief knives are surprisingly lighter than your typically medium sized Spyderco knife. The CF NC I have is the lightest useable knife I own.
