Spyderco chef question

#1

Post by AFG08 »

I’m inching toward buying the Spydie Chef but then I came across a review that said the blade steel acquired scratches very easily. I understand it’s a tool and all that but that comment kind of deterred me. I’m not hard on my knives but at over $200 I’d like to keep the wear reasonable. Is this really any worse than the others? Thanks

Lc200n does get light scratches easier than other steels for sure. I’ve just sorta accepted it.
Lightly insane.

I'm 3+ years in on my original Spydiechef. Cut lots of food from chicken to fish to vegetables to pitting avocados and no scratches.

The only Stuff I have with visible scratches are the tool steel/carbon/SUS410 models.

Of course maybe I just need binoculars to get a better look.

Mine has fine scratches after several years of use but it still looks good. Any knife that gets used will get some scratches in my experience.

The Chef is a favorite and gets better with use. The Ti handle shows wear at least as easily as the LC blade, but it ages gracefully if you like a little character.

If you expect it to not show use, you may be unhappy.

The blade or the handle???

The blade doesnt scratch too bad.

The handle however does scratch pretty easily. "Snail trails" and all of that.

I actually like it for a user knife that I plan on keeping. Battle scars.

I know H1 scratches very easily. Lc200n I believe much less so. I think the wear looks awesome though!

What’s wrong with having scratches on a blade that you use and love?
