I like that differential! I'm not sure I'm clear in how you got it, is the darker end from the black dye or did you just leave that portion in the dye longer?Leksy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 3:27 pmGreetings!
I've been reading the forum for quite long time, and now there's a reason to register :)
want to share my experience with FRN dyeing of Native Salt SE.
My plan was to set up hi-vis orange color, and then get about an inch of full black color around the pocket clip, with some fading.
I've boiled about 2 cups of water, dissolved there one pack of red synthetic fabric dye (french brand, named 'Ideal', as it's rather hard to get RIT dye at my location. yet I suppose these dyes are quite the same), added two large spoons of 6% apple vinegar. Got scales disassembled and dipped 3 times for 30 to 40 seconds (so about two minutes total).
Then I've repeated this process with black dye, but something got wrong and black color didnt set up at all.
My cellphone camera cannot transfer true colors. In fact, I've got the main color as "brick" (very close to "burnt orange" used in sprint runs) and a splash of deep "red wine" fading.
Anyway, I'm totally happy with this result!

Shhhhhhh.... don't tell anyone is is not perfect. It looks excellent!Evil D wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 7:52 amTried to dye my Caribbean all black...didn't exactly work. I usually use Rit DyeMore but I'm not sure they make it in black so I used regular liquid black Rit and it didn't dye it all the way black. I even stripped the previous dye off and boiled the scales until the dye just about boiled away but this is as dark as it would go. There's a bit of a green tint to it.

yes, it is from the black dye - I guess because I've losed proper heat level.
I think you'd still be able to see the black. But you could do a quick dunk in blue dye and get a cool purple/black zome.

i actually like the zome look, but i think i might try the dragonfly and i'd prefer purple/black zome. i don't want a red and black until they make me my ladybug.
