Retire The PM2?

#1

Post by pm2og »

Hear me out:

Here is my proposal. Make a thinned out Shaman. Thinner scales and blade stock. Fix the nub everyone hates. This creates a knife that for all intents and purposes makes the PM2 obsolete.
The Shaman basically fixed all the mechanical issues with the PM2. Got rid of the standoffs that make disassembly a nightmare. Changed the screwed in stop pin with a free floating thus eliminating the action bind by over tightening at reassembly. Got rid of the flared lanyard tube. Blade centering is easier with a Shaman. The PM2 was built to not be disassembled but thats not the knife world we live in now. Everyone is customizing and servicing their own knives and I support that fully. A skinny Shaman would be a better PM2. This just makes sense to me as the next evolution.

Maybe even a Vanax Shaman Skinny :D

I look forward to the feedback on this idea.

In this configuration, would you still need the Shaman’s backspacer?

I would for sure keep that backspacer. It fixes all the issues with the standoffs.

Almost like I’ve heard of this “skinny shaman” idea before ;)

If only they made a model that was like the Shaman, but with a thinner handle and blade stock, no choil nub, no standoffs and no screwed stop pin...

Hmmmm.....let’s discontinue a model that sells like hotcakes. Sound business move if you ask me.

Before I was a Spyderco fan the Paramilitary 2 was the flagship model in my head. To get rid of it would be a mistake.

Now,,,,go ahead and mod the Shaman or whatever, but never retire the PM2

Go back to Shaman island.

Don't like the Shaman, can't work out the fuss. It's just a native 5 with a weird piece missing from a perfectly good scale ?

The G10 SS Stretch might be a better PM2 surrogate.

BTW, personally I don't think I will be buying any comp locks.

I'd like to score a crucarta version before this top selling, flagship model retires. I take the pm2 over a skinny shaman every day of the week but that's me.
