Throwing spikes??!! I'm gonna have to look into those! We've been having a lot of fun throwing hatchets and the Spyderthrowers lately.

Enjoying no spin knife throwing so much at the moment, that I got myself throwing spikes for indoors... ... Manix does not get thrown, but is in my pocket.

Definitely get some! They are fun for shorter distances and actually pretty cheap too (don´t know the choices in the US, but I purchased these ones https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07FBGRVKB?tag ... th=1&psc=1)

Though as far as I can recall you and your husband do full spin throwing, right?
I prefer "no" spin anyway (actually more "quarter spin", but the point is, that the point (pun intended ) is always facing forward, so the knife does not rotate) - and I think perhaps the spikes are perhaps generally better suited for that technique

Starting at 0:30 already the lady throws some spikes, and you can see that they don´t actually fully rotate, but just fly in an arch, tip always facing forward.
At about 2:45 she tries a longer distance: Again, no full rotation.

Another good thing with spikes: They are really easy to take with you and bring anywhere, for spontanous throwing (not only indoors)

Thanks, W! Yeah, we've been doing full spin throwing, but I'm open to other techniques.

Perhaps just get a set of three spikes and try... they really cost almost nothing and are probably actually the best (safest) entry for kids who want to get into throwing [Edit: YOUR kids of course, not you... :p Don´t know how old your boys are (perhaps already old enough for real knives) and if they like throwing anyway)

And learning the "no" spin technique is fun! First a bit of a challenge, but then it opens a "new world of throwing", especially with knives. You can just go for a run and hike and throw on every tree stump or dead tree you come across, without having to know the exact distance to it, and no matter if you´re five, ten, twenty, more... feet away (I think the current record in no spin throwing a knife is around 15 meters = around 50 feet).

I get it, the cutout for the button lock is definitely irritating when it becomes a snag point (experienced that a couple times already today) But besides that, it's a pretty good design. Multiple ways to comfortably grip the handle, nice wharnie shape, slices great. I also love how slim in the pocket it is.

Multiple ways to comfortably grip the handle, nice wharnie shape, slices great. I also love how slim in the pocket it is.

I definitely still love mine, especially with the beautiful wood scales on it. I've been distracted by other shiny things lately, but the Smock is still a favorite.
