Watch out buying on secondary market

As the title says, watch out when buying 2nd hand , I bought what I thought were some good spyderco full serrated, and decided to send them in for a minor spa treatment, well holy cow
I just got a letter then a call from the service department, seems who ever “ cleaned up “ and resharpen them ruined them :mad: :mad:
So be carful of the 2ndary market

Ah, ok, I did not realize that the OP sent them in to SPYDERCO... can hardly believe that they "ruined" the knives...? :confused:

I'm a little confused. Did you send them to Spyderco, and they ruined the knives, or did you have the seller send them to Spyderco and they determined they were ruined when they got there?

No I bought them they seemed clean/ not abused, but couldn’t get a good edge on them myself, so I sent them to repair for a factory sharpening, then today received a letter from spyderco to call them, guy I talked to said who ever sharpen them they had ruined them and all needed to be reground , 1. Delica g-2 steel, 2. Endura spyder edge ats-55 3. Endura aus 8 I am sending back to seller for a refund ( because they probably were sharpen by same guy)
My fault for shopping on the internet for vintage knives I have lost or broken beyond repair

Let me clearly state that spyderco did absolutely nothing wrong to my knives, it was the company that sold the knives that did the damage

Sounds like he sent them into Spyderco and learned that the seller had previously messed up the knives while sharpening them.

I don't see how one (being careful buying secondary) has anything to do with the other (sending those secondary market purchased knives in for "minor spa treatment").

As I read it, your post comes across a bit passive aggressive...

What specifically is the (your) issue?
Buying used knives, or knives off the secondary market?
Sending used knives in for "minor spa treatment"?
Having the company you send your used knives in to for "minor spa treatment" ruin them when "cleaning them up" and resharpening them?

Wartstein offers some solid advise on getting (and using) a Sharpmaker, if you don't already have one, to use for sharpening serrated edge (Spyderco) knives.

Just using "common sense" (I know, I know...), seems to me that Spyderco would Not ruin a knife. Seems like they might contact you (e-mail then call even maybe) to tell you the knife was beyond "spa treatment", or worn/used TO much...
Kinda difficult to wrap my head around the company that has their name on it, ruining their product though.

I was thinking the same, from the photos it should have been evident that they were pretty jacked up.

Yes sadly, the teeth were just worn too thin for a minor spa treatment, the photos were different from what was delivered and described

Ooof, that's a raw deal there. I can see why some buyers ask handwritten time stamps on online secondary sales now. It's not 100% foolproof but get you closer then without a time stamp showing current possession and condition.
