Turns out my new dog likes Spyderco
Turns out my new dog likes Spyderco
So we adopted a rescue a couple days ago and she loves to just assemble her belongings around her, either on our bed, her bed or the couch. So far she’s been remarkably good at knowing what’s hers and what’s not...
I took a break from folding clothes to unpack her new crate. I closed my knife, put it down, carried the crate into the other room, came back and couldn’t find the knife. Then I looked at where she was lying on the couch... guess we’ve got some work to do, on her staying away from knives and me being extremely aware of where I put them down.

Haha. The puppy girl already knows how to leverage her cuteness to her benefit.

Beautiful pup!
Pits, with a bit of training, are the best dogs you can get. Like giant cuddle bugs, that will also hang from someone's face, if necessary.

A scary moment for sure! Our $75 dollar rescue dog ended up being a $2500 dog after he ingested a squeaker from a chew toy. I'm very thankful he did not get to something more dangerous.
Beautiful pup! I love them in that grey color.

Cute girl! She knows how to get your attention!
Re: Turns out my new dog likes Spyderco
My boerboel chewed up the handle of my temperance FB once. Still worked after that just a bit uncomfortable.
Re: Turns out my new dog likes Spyderco
Thanks all!
Yes, she’s a total sweetheart - just like every pit I’ve met, except of course I think she’s the best because she’s mine.
I suppose it’s a common experience of rescue parents to wonder about their pup’s life beforehand. She’s a year and a half old, has the most wonderful temperament, she’s clearly smart and eager to please us, she’s great with people and animals, and she knows not to go to the bathroom inside... but she doesn’t know her name or any commands in English or Spanish, she doesn’t react to the word “treat,” and she’s got a whole bunch of scars. She doesn’t guard her toys from me, but she’s obsessed with them and always gathers them around herself and just keeps them there as if she’s never had anything of her own before. She’s super happy both in the apartment and outside, but hates the transition between the two (this may be in part because she’s recovering from being spayed and I have to carry her up and down the stairs, but I don’t think that’s the whole story). She also looks like she had pups not long before being given up. She was “surrendered by owner,” so we know she’s not a stray.
In any case she’s adjusting well to her new home. We’re so happy we found her and she seems psyched to be part of our family. I’m pretty good with dogs and her training is going well so far, but I’ve never trained an adult dog from scratch before so if anybody who has wants to offer any pointers I might not have thought of, that would be great! She’s not at all motivated by treats but loves toys and affection, which I prefer anyway.
JRinFL, I’m glad your pup was ok and had a family who was willing to take such good care of him! Lucky dog

She's adorable. I lost my pit mix back in October when she was about 14. They're such amazing, intelligent, affectionate dogs. Thank you for bringing yours in to your family and out of the shelter.

Sorry for your loss, what was her name? Post a pic I’d you’d like <3

Congrats on the new puppy! She's a sweety for sure
Re: Turns out my new dog likes Spyderco
What a sweetie! Can't beat a smile from a pittie! A nice grey and a brindle are on my list. I vacillate between Pits and working breeds like border collies, Australian Sheppards, Australian cattledogs/blue heelers..... My most recent rescue is a Pit-Chow mix but you'd never know it without the DNA testing.

Thanks, he is a lovable goof and we are blessed we could afford the bill. I'm glad yours was not hurt by the knife and you found it quickly!

They say pits will turn on you. Most think that means they'll attack, but it's far worse. They sell your limited edition spydies on eBay. The cuteness and affection is all a ruse to lull you into leaving them alone with the merchandise.
My friend lost a treerex shaman and a whole line of seki superblue to a cute rescue with soulful eyes. He lost the will to live and now carries a Gerber paraframe.

Thanks for the warning, sending her back ASAP
