Manix Rust?
Manix Rust?
I recently purchased a Manix, and am concerned that it may be rusting. The part of the blade that hooks up with the lock back has a red-rust colored look. I tried wiping it with a q-tip dipped in oil, but the q-tip came up clean. So I am wondering if maybe this is some kind of protective coating for that area of the blade? Anyone else have this on their knife?

I don't know guys. dani was posting of the same thing not to long ago but all his pics showed the discoloration on the lock, not the blade. And Lil Timmy, you can always get rust off
Wouter, what's this discoloration on the bare part of the blade? Rust, I would guess cause I've never seen the color of steel to be rusty red.
I wish someone from Spyderco would comment on this, cause I just searched the forum for rust and it's rarely mentioned until recently.
Some say rust, some steel discoloration, some lube, or fluids from the cutting process. Come on Spyderco, it's a concern enough that people keep bringing it up. Clue us in on what it is.

Given its location, on the part of the blade where the lock bar engages, and the fact that it does not rub off on your Q-tip it certainly sounds like discoloration from the laser cutting process rather than rust. I have never encountered rust that would not stain a piece of cloth or paper towel rubbed across it.
